• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

OK, My 1st post and my 1st Spyder!
Drove it home and hit a dog gone hammer! Yes, i was on a 4 lane hwy and low and behold there it was. A broken hammer. I hit it!
Question, which tire should i allow to hit the next hammer. LOL!!! Hope not to EVER hit one again. But, going forward, stuff happens!

Hammer Hit

:coffee: Well, first off, was it one of the $200.00 military ones or just your Local Hardware Type. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack: In the future try to miss most of that Stuff. I'm sure someone else has experienced this and could offer you a better Tip.

Front tires are easier to replace and cheaper to purchase. Front tire also has the greater chance of kicking up and damaging much more expensive pieces. Rear tires (auto) aren't much more expensive and not too terrible to remove. I'd say rear tire :)

:welcome::congrats:There is a sweet spot just between tires, if you can aim the object to go under either mirror (or foot peg/ floorboard). Takes little practice, but helps keep from over correcting & swerving too hard.Oh ya & :lecturef_smilie: SLOW DOWN:chill:

Straddle them dang hammers when ya can. I aim to run over things with my feet, that way the object generally goes between the tires. (There's roughly (I've never measured) about 16" between the edge of the rear and either front.) Obviously not always possible. If ya gotta hit it, hit it with the rear. That way you'll hop over it with more control. If you hit something with a front, you're more apt to lose control, kick the object up, blow out a tire, or knock it out of alignment, or all of the above. In any case, try to slow down first. This of course teaches us the lesson of leaving plenty room between you and the vehicle ahead of you so you have room to dodge things....like hammers...Same goes with those pesky potholes by the way

Yup! Stuff happens. Agree with above. Rear likely to cause least damage to your Spyder.

When it happens, you get a split second to make the move...that is the scary part.

Returning from a trip in northern Cali. I tried to dodge a fresh road kill Skunk. Very hard to do on a Spyder pulling a trailer. I thought I cleaned it up well until I got home and it sat in the shop for a couple days in hot weather. I put it on the lift and found Skunk chunks in the rear fender and the trailer suspension. Even now that we are back on a wing my wife makes sure I don't forget to give road kill plenty of space.

Guess what time it was!?

The Owners Manual used to say that you should avoid hitting obstacles with the front tires, don’t know if that is still in the manuals but I follow that advice and if I can’t avoid something I try to hit it with the rear.
