• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hindel Pipes

Just wandering about changing out my stock pipes for another type possibly the Hindel, my question is what I'm hearing is that if you change out the stock for something else, your spyder won't run right, unless you spend a small fortune for a juice box, o2 sensor modifier, or a oil pressure modifier or a combination of them?? What is the real story?? some say they have not added anything and their spyders run fine, while other say they had to add the above, and even some say the above didn't help. What say you???...............Thanks:dontknow::helpsmilie:

I am an old phart that has made very few meaningful mods to my Spyder.

I have added the HeliBar riser, the UltraTouring 25" and the mirror extenders.

Perhaps because I am an old phart I am utterly baffled by all the need to fiddle and diddle with this wonderful performance machine.

Do things that make it work for you. Other stuff???????????

I changed from stock to a Hindle. I just this week added the JB. My :spyder2: ran fine stock, but I wanted something with more sound. Being a newbie (last year) my first "bike" it took me sometime to come up to speed about how the :spyder2:'s running and such. After reading many helpful post from seasoned bike owners. I realized that even though the :spyder2: is running just fine with stock components. There were mods that would improve on an already fantastic ryde!
I've done 1st mods for safety, 2nd for comfort and 3rd for performance. With each mod I've learned more about my :spyder2: and I've enjoyed all help and input from many of the members of this site. Each person has their own idea of what they like/dislike. I know I've changed my mind about certain mods I've done, that I said I wouldn't. I had yet to regret any mod I've put on the:spyder2:. And finally the JB has really improved on the way it runs (like no more slow speed sputtering, surging (on mine between 3800-4200 RPM) and no more backfiring. Do what you like and what makes you happy. And asking questions here is a good place to start. Ryde Safe!

I've got the Hindle on my SM5. No other performance mods and it runs fine.
No pops or backfires or running bad. Just a nice note as you roll on the throttle
It does leak a tiny bit around the bottom joint. Nothing I'm worried about though.

I guess i'm an "Old Phart" also, but I've always enjoyed the kick in the but accelaration when you roll on the throttle. I'll never grow up.:D:doorag:

I put the Hindle on at 300 miles, sealed the joint and have added no other performance mods. You need to disconnect the battery for at least 30 minutes, after you install the Hindle, otherwise the ECU might not reset.

My reason for changing was the comments that the stock pipe was heavy, and took out the seals fairly quickly (10K). It IS heavy, and would benefit from dual hangers.

:agree: and mine does back fire a bit, but it does not bother me. The thing with the hindle is they use cheap material to make it. So after so many thousand miles the pipe will get a little louder. Thats because the material used to make the bafold is wearing out. My mechanic said he could replace the bafold with a better material, but I am in no hurry to do it because I like it a little louder.
Stock pipes sound like weak little Vespas going down the street. All of my friends with spyders who don't have a hindle all want one after riding with those of us that do.

I changed to the Hindle and no problems what so ever... I did it at the 600 miles and prior to the service... better performance and a beautiful note... i simply love the sound of it.. is not too loud.. I could not stand the stock lawn mower sound...

Do it. strongly recommend it... lots to gain with nothing to loose...

:agree: I am running a Hindle. The only thing I did was to disconnect the battery and follow the seasoning instructions.

I am running the Hindle and have had absolutely no problem, no leaks, no coming apart, nothing except a nice sound. I do have the JB and Green filter; However, when I was running the Hindle stock it ran fine with no issues.:f_spider:

What seasoning instructions? I had my installed prior to delivery and didn't get any instructions. It sounds great, doesn't pop, but I'd like to keep it that way...

If the dealership installed the Hindle, I'd like to think that they did the seasoning step for you. It's just starting and running the Spyder at idle (no revving or riding) for 15 minutes after installing the Hindle and then letting it cool down for 15 minutes or so.

thumbs up on my hindle

I bought a used hindle off this forum. Installed it in 15 minutes. I have done nothing else with the exhaust.
After installing it, I started experiencing some back-firing (popping). It occurs when I am running the Spyder at higher RPM's in lower gears.
So what I do now is shift gears much sooner and all popping has stopped. Many people on this forum say their Spyder loves higher RPM's and does not run good at lower RPM's and I am not doubting that ...BUT THAT HAS NOT BEEN "MY" EXPERIENCE. My Spyder runs just fine and I know my gas mileage has increased a mile or two per gallon. :spyder:
