• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. HIGHWAY GAS MILEAGE

CINCYDUDE

New member
I bought a new 2012 Spyder RT SE5 Saturday a week ago and I was wondering what kind of highway driving mileage per gallon I could expect.

Thanks

hey cincydude

welcome, first of all. i'm no r t expert, but i think you can expect 30 ish mpg .

:welcome: a lot of your gas mileage depends on how fast you drive. I have gotten 34 mpg pulling a fully loaded trailer but I was only going 65 mph. I have also gotten 20 mpg pulling the same loaded trailer but going 80+ mph. Generally people get between 25 and 35 mpg.

Gas mpg is very dependent on your riding style, weight, two up or single etc. But on my new RT-S SE5 I got 25 mpg for the first 200 miles then around 28-30 for the next 200. Now after the first service at 800 I am getting around 30 to 34 highway.

Most are getting 29/30, Some do get in the mid 30's, The Spyder's tank is only 6 gal, now some will say the .6 is for air space, But until the Spyder can run on air the tank is 6 gal.
Also the tank is very tricky to fill with the same amount each time, so you'll see people reporting figures all over the board. Take an average of 4 or 5 tanks to figure yours out.

OHIO GROUP

welcome, first of all. i'm no r t expert, but i think you can expect 30 ish mpg .

DO YOU EVER MEET UP WITH THE GROUP ON SUNDAYS AT EDEN PARK OVERLOOK , IF SO WHERE EXACTLY DO THEY MEET? WE WERE THERE LAST SUNDAY ABOUT 2:15 COULD NOT FIND ANYONE.

I also didn't start getting decent mileage until I had about 1000 miles or more on mine. At first I was around 22-24, and thought I had a problem. Now I'm seeing anywhere between 28, and 32. both numbers are with 2-up.

On longer highway rides, no passanger I get 34 mpg if I accelerate easy, do the speed limit and limit passing. I use the recommended 91 octane with no ethanol when I can get it which helps a lot. On my Ride to Reno and back ((1700 miles of just highway riding) I was in the 32-33 bracket but I had a lot of addtional wieght in luggage and I had to use what ever high octane I could get along the road. I live in a very hilly/mountainous area but the I-5 is not bad. That being said, I rode to Winthrope recently and averaged 34 and that route crosses the North Cascade Mountain Range so that really put her to the test for milage.

Teddy & I would like to say Congrats on the New Ryde & Welcome to the SpyderHood

:congrats: & :welcome:

Sorry about missing you this past Sunday. We have a very casual group here in Cincy, tho we do try to meet usually on Sundays at the upper overlook above the Twin Lakes Park above Krohn Conservatory, depending on weather of course.

I've had Teds Red Sled torn apart all around the garage for the past couple of weeks, working on a miriad of mods, so we haven't been able to ryde lately:banghead:

What part of Cincy are you in and where did you buy your Spyder from?
Teddy & I are located right off the river in Covington, across from downtown Cincy:thumbup:

:clap:Hope to be able to meet and ryde with you soon and if you'd like to talk:clap:
;)Just PM me & I'll send you my cell #;)
Dave n Teddy~

:agree: I have gotten 36 & 37 MPG a couple of times while on the flat, one up, no wind and conservative ryding. Actually, I've stopped checking MPG ... and just ryde. :ohyea:

:welcome: As other have posted, mileage has to do with a lot of factors. I get 30-34 mpg depending on how I ride. 29,000 miles on my RTS.

30.....if you hold your mouth right. ;)

There are a lot of variables here, your location, riding habits, the topography, the quality of the brand you select, the wind, the temperature, windshield height, etc. A new Spyder will get lower mileage than one that has a few thousand miles and if broken in. If you absolutely have to put a number on it, I'd say 30 +/- 5 mpg.

Mileage check

you may want to go to http://fuelly.com and setup an account it will track your mileage and can see what other are really getting. Its taken from putting in mileage
price and gallons at each fillup

I actually lose about 5 mpg when my wife and I have our Bluetooth helmets on. Less aggregation better mileage, more conversation worse mileage.

:agree: I normally get about 37 mpg out on the open road; but I take it pretty easy on the loud grip...
Welcome aboard too! :2thumbs:

37 MPG :yikes::yikes::yikes: I can only dream. I get around 30, but who cares it is so much fun:yes::yes:

But I ride the the typical "Olphart" that I am... :opps:
The only items that I need to complete the package are a turnsignal that's always flashing "left", and a seatbelt hanging out of the door...
