• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

High Idle...

Even I have the same issue and no solution yet. I have a 2009 RS SM5, custom 2bros pipe and fog lights. Had it checked out by the dealer last summer but he could not reproduce the problem.:(

That is typically an ignition problem...bad plug wire, fouled plug, bad coil, or wounded ECM.
It has idled down to 850 /900 RPM's, doesn't miss a beat, it's as if you just turned the idle down on on a carburated engine. It rev's cleanly and runs normal, the next traffic light it will be right back to 1350/1400, doesn't happen often, must be a temporary glitch in the ECU.

If you no longer have a purge valve, I would look towards the Idle Air Control Valve. Could be getting a signal to open. Could be a vacuum leak in the idle circuit vacuum lines. Does the idle stay high, or does it come down on its own? Does it do it on hot restarts? Is the temp sensor still in the stock location? What ambient temps are indicated when it's running on high idle?
That's what we need. Best EFI brain on SpyderLovers. Thanks for droppin' in HDX.

Had the same problem with mine when we attempted to install the HID lights...Multiple calls to the vendor and BRP revealed it was the placement of the ballasts...to close to the computer...solution was to move the ballasts further back..

Had the high idle on my 08 [2 years ago] Eventually the ECU/ECM failed then no idle no nothing, One dead Spyder and another tow to the dealer.

I've had an aftermarket HID kit installed since Miss Vicky rolled out of the dealer. My ballasts are back behind the steering (see photo below) and I can shut my lights off and that didn't make a difference. This was my first occurrence of this and I'm closing in on 25k miles. The only effect my lights have had is an intermittent reset of the clock but it works so poorly at keeping time that I don't even reset it.

Good info though, Thanks! Keep the ideas coming.

Yours are much further back from where my dealer tried to install the ballasts...they had them up front right along where the trunk attached (behind)...I tried to get them to place the ballasts in the same area as yours but they refused to work on it any further.

I can't remember if we ever came up with a definitive answer to the occasional 'high idle' on an RS/GS ???

Mines been doing it quite a bit lately... if I re-boot the bike a few times it goes away... but otherwise it will idle at 3,500 - 5,000......

Anyone remember what we found on this awhile ago??

My 2011 RS-S rpm's was showing about 1,000 that's about 400 rpm low. I took my battery cables off for a few hours, then reconected them on 08/04/12. I then reset the clock and the rest of it and now the rpm's are showing about 1,400 to 1,500. Maybe due to solar flares?

Leprechauns!

My Triumph Rocket 111 had this problem. It turned out to be a low battery. Enough power to start, but not enough to satisfy the computer. After a full charge problem went away. Being stuck in traffic your charging system was not charging the battery. After you got back up to speed the computer was happy. You should try to sneak that Triumph through town at 4,000 rpm!! A low or weak battery can cause all sorts of unexplained problems.
