Hi Everyone
Well we are back we have been on vacation in beautiful Hawaii
we have family there on the Big Island of Hawaii, in Kona.
we had to jump through a bunch of hoops to be able to go there
Covid shot, multiple covid tests all had to be negative and one when we
got off the airplane..... but worth it... there is almost no covid on the big island
and they mean to keep it that way. The photo on the left is a shot of the TV at news time
showing the islands and how many cases there are.

Aloha. A great place to visit.

We stopped in Kona to drink and buy some of that great coffee.

Also went to the Southernmost bar in the US (they claimed).

Yes it was a pain in the you know what but in the end very worth it to not have to
worry about getting sick.

Dave, I wish I knew you were heading for the Big Island, I could have made a couple suggestions known only to locals. The world's best malasadas are at Tex Drive-In in Honokaa - halfway between Kona and Hilo on the upper (and curvier) road. For the best karaoke, go to the bowling alley lounge in the evenings. Wonderful singers there and groups do that nice,
Polynesian 5 part harmony. You'll have to ask a Kona local where the bowling alley is - they hid it behind a shopping center.

I love hearing that as one who is Hawai'ian at heart. Our home is decorated with both large and small Pegge Hopper prints, a Hawai'ian quilt hangs on a wall in the split entry and much more Hawi'iana. Our Hawai'ian friends, who were there, said our wedding was more Hawai'ian than theirs were. We had a celebration luau and told guests to wear their aloha shirts and muu muus and they did! A local boy, who has a Hawai'ian restaurant provided the food, while others put on the entertainment and the pre-ceremony chant. Aloha nui!
Now I went and made myself homesick for the islands.

The Uncle Billies in Hilo is closed and has been for years the one by the Airport, I don't know if anyone did a referb on it and reopened it yet
that one had a good restaurant as well. when we are on the Hilo side we stay with family but on the Kona side we have a condo.

Kona or Hilo

We did the Hilo version. I believe that particular trip was 2008 or so. I have been to Hawaii three times. First time, we did Island hopping. The next two times Maui exclusively.

My favorite island is Molokai. It's so local and not one traffic light. Not developed for tourism, so you do the local scene. No ka oi!
