• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Howdy! 'New to Me' 2011 RTS Owner

Howdy all, from the great state of Texas!

After seeing my father get many good years of riding from his RT Limited before health sidelined him from riding, now my own health has dictated me needing to switch from my VTX-1800 R two-wheeler into the awesome Spyder platform--especially for riding two-up. I've already seen a lot of helpful tips here. I bought the used Spyder from a Harley dealership, and while they were nice to deal with, they didn't lay a finger on the Spyder, and no one in our area services them, so I'll tackle most things myself with wisdom from you folks. Being 11 years old with only 9,800 miles on it, the bike has clearly sat in someone's garage a good deal of its life, so it's missing and running a bit ragged, plus the exhaust reeks. I think it's only firing on one cylinder.

First I'm tackling the obvious culprits--old fuel, fuel filter, plugs, evaluate wires, air filter, and the non-electric components in the fuel delivery system before diving into other culprits if these components don't get it running smoothly. The previous owner installed quite a few LEDs, even on the coil springs around the shocks, and to draw eyes the Harley dealer let it sit each evening with the lights on for the "wow" effect. So the battery is roached. It charged on a Tender Plus, but not knowing it's history I'm taking out some cheap insurance and throwing a new battery in too, just for my peace of mind.

Any other obvious things I should look for and evaluate in a bike that has sat a bit? The tires are in excellent condition, no apparent dry rot, with the new tire "nubs" still intact, so I'll leave them be. Thanks to all of you for your input and knowledge. Proud to be a member of the Spyder family! Ride on, VI

Welcome to the forum VanIrons. I hope you enjoy it. :congrats: on the new to you 2011 Spyder RTS!! You can find lots of good information here on the Spyder RTS in the different areas of the forum. Make sure and post a photo of your new ride in the Spyder Garage area of the forum when you can. Make sure and repost your questions in the Spyder RT Touring area of the forum and I'm sure someone here can give you some help to get the Spyder running like new again. When you repost make sure and do like you did here by stating the year, model, miles and background of Spyder. For that year the first thing will be to replace the vacuum hoses. Good luck with your project. I hope to see you around the forum soon. :2thumbs:

Perfect advice, thanks! 👍 Any way to tell if that’s been done before, or is it a routine maintenance kind of project?
