• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2009 Can Am SE5 Spyder

I just purchased my 1st Spyder. I picked up a 2009 Spyder with 17,500 miles on it. It seems to be in really good condition and well cared for. Have not had a chance to ride it much being in Northern IL. I have been reading horror stories about all of the breakdowns. Is this a lot of miles for this machine?

Hi RM, welcome to the Forum. You probably won't get too many answers to any questions you post in this section, which is why SpyderBOT says:

Once all your joining processing has been finalised, your username will turn Blue (like SpyderBOT's) and you'll be able to post up & ask questions in the more frequented parts of the Forum; but in the meantime, you can always read up on the links in SpyderBOTS post, lotsa good info in them, and then maybe do a bit of searching & reading all the other responses to similar questions that are already out there - 'How many miles is a lot for a Spyder' or words to that effect is a question that gets asked often and is frequently answered at length! ;)

But a brief response to your concern would be NO, if used & well maintained, these things can easily manage over 100,000 miles - in fact, you might be more concerned about the LACK of miles done on a 14 year old Spyder!! With only 17,500 miles on the dial, which is an average of about 1250 miles per year, that one has probably spent a lot of time sitting around, so it is likely to need new tires & at least a thorough inspection if not replacement of anything that could perish or degrade over time - hoses, coolant, fuel, oil, brake fluid, etc, etc - and it might need that seeing to BEFORE you risk riding it anywhere! :lecturef_smilie:

Still, it shouldn't take too long for your joining processing to be done, and I'll be looking forward to you posting out there soon.
