• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hello everyone. I am looking to get into the spyder world. I’m a long time rider and recently suffered a motorcycle accident damaging my right knee. Orthopedist tells me I can’t have two wheels until I completely heal from surgery, so the rest of this year is shot, but she did give me the thumbs up for 3 wheels! I’m a member of the American Legion and part of the riders group, and there’s just too much going on for me to sit idly by or ride in the chase truck. I’m looking for a F3, or a newer unit that will allow me to keep my right leg mostly straight. I sat on a 2009 with foot pegs, and the angle to the brake was just too steep. I know a handbrake is not out of the question, but more forward controls are going to be the most comfortable for the foreseeable future. I look forward to learning all the neat little things about these bikes. I’ve ridden a couple demo days in the past and enjoyed it.

Welcome to the Forum Dracos!

Sorry to hear about your accident, and hope you heal well post surgery - my Orthopod now includes my Spyder riding in my post surgery re-hab programs! But do be warned that once you start down the Spyder path, you might not be quite so keen to go (completely??) back to 2-wheels afterwards! :lecturef_smilie:

Admittedly, riding a Spyder is not quite the same as riding on 2-wheels, but it is very much wind-therapy, and while it's a little different, we don't crow about the 'Miles of Smiles' for no reason! I don't think Spyder riding is quite so 'intuitive' as riding a 2-wheeler to start with; but I'd suggest that while it's probably easier just to jump on a Spyder and 'just start to ride it' without pushing anything hard at all, once you've done that & want to start exploring what these things can REALLY do, it's probably harder than riding a 2-wheeler (especially on your upper body!) and it requires a lot more real skill and effort to ride one really well! nojoke

While I've still got a looong way to go in developing my Spyder riding skills, there's not too many 2-wheel bikes/riders or just about NO cars that'll keep up with me thru the twisties (especially in the tight stuff! ;) ) & when the straights are short, with few if any even coming near the Spyder's full on braking capability, even if you might be a little limited by needing to use a handbrake instead of a full leg/body weight pedal stomp!! Once you come to terms with the differences between Spyders & 2-wheel bikes (& especially if you get an ECU Upgrade to remove the over-zealous de-tuning of their performance courtesy of BRP! ) and you start to get good at it, a Spyder is just that much better at cornering, with far greater braking capability (even with the limits of a handbrake!) & their outstanding stability pretty much regardless of the road surface/condition &/or wet leaves, debris, etc; allowing you to ride faster into the corners; brake later & harder; corner tighter & faster; and then get on the gas again to ride out of the corners sooo much sooner & quicker, that it's really only once the straights start getting long enough for the dirty great wall of air the Spyder's gotta push outta the way to come into play that the better 2-wheel riders on the faster bikes can even start to catch up!! And yet when/if you don't want to push things all that much &/or give yourself the (upper body) work-out all that requires, the Spyder's stability and comfort is pretty much unequalled! Spyder wins all round! :ohyea:

Anyhow, that said, you probably won't get too much in the way of responses to your post above in here, which is partly why SpyderBOT says not to post any support questions here in the Welcome post just above yours, but mainly it's cos so few members regularly visit this section. Still, it shouldn't be too long before all your joining processing is complete, and you'll be able to post out in the more frequented sections of the Forum.

Check out the For Sale by Owners sub-forum to see if there are any F3's for sale in there that look interesting to you, or even a 2020 & up RT with their longer reach floorboards; maybe even post a Want to Buy (WTB:) Ad in there; but please do at least check out the links above & any Stickies first, especially the one at the top of the 'For Sale' section. ;) And hopefully, we'll see you out on the more public boards pretty soon, and possibly even talking about your new Spyder before long too! :2thumbs:
