• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hesitation on hard right turns

Hi Gang,

I have a '08 GS and have noticed lately that the engine stumbles a little when I accelerate hard around a right corner. I never noticed it before, but then I'm slamming corners harder than i used to, since I'm now more used to the way a Spyder handles.
Is this normal?
Is nanny grabbing the throttle?
If not normal, thoughts on where the issue is???

Yep, you angered Miss Nanny. Could be the yaw sensor due to the sideways force or body roll, could be steering sensor mismatches with the torque not matching the angle, could be too much steering angle and too much throttle together, or could be a loss of traction. It pays to get it straightened out before you hammer it, lean hard into the corner or shift your weight, and practice smooth transitions and throttle application. This is where the rider's skill comes into play, matching the riding technique to the machine's limitations.
 
Yep, been there and its the yaw rate sensor. When you try to get a bit aggressive on those low speed, high steering angles, and a fist full of throttle it can get fussy.
You have basically 3 choices.
1) get the sensor zero'd out by an accommodating dealer, and when you do, put a lot of weight on the back or slightly elevate the front.
2) shim the front of the sensor down off the frame about 1/4"
3) live with it.

Keep in mind that #1 and #2 change the characteristics of the stability control system. Your call.

I had that on my 2011 RS-S. Check the air pressure (the same psi in both front tires), Check the shocks for oil leaks, Check the sway bar for broken parts. My right shock had the different (lighter) spring setting then it left shock. I put a BajaRon sway bar on and it improved the handling in the corners . I also put on 2012 RT front shocks about a year after the BajaRon sway bar due to the right shock started to leak and I got the both shock (with low mileage) for $100.00 used.

Right hand turns are sharper than left hand turns so your Nanny will always kick in sooner. As mentioned, there are several things that you can do to lessen or delay the onset of your unseen but always present riding partner.

Where is the Yaw Rate Sensor located? Have you shimmed the sensor?

Its right under the frame backbone. Just above and between the motor and fuel tank.

Shimming the sensor puts it at an initial negative input when normally it would be at zero. Makes the system see less lateral acceleration.

It's an old street car track day trick. Some guys even mount the sensor vertical which basically eliminates it totally.

Shimming the front down a bit on the spyder makes the system less sensitive to hard acceleration.

Anything to help me roll through the curves a little quicker. I hate when it kills the throttle in the middle of a nice curve in the road or when i need to get into traffic a little faster from a dead stop.
 
Basically what I did was removed the sensor and traced the outline onto a 1/2" thick piece of plastic. Cut not out and then ground it down into a wedge. So its about 1/2" thick toward the front and only a few mm thick at the rear.
