• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hey...... we're on a trip in Canada and I have a 2014 RTS SE 6. Started throwing DEES CODE when I tried to start it. Tried spare key....did same thing. I messed with key in the ignition and it started ..... don't know why or how. Called several dealers, and all point to the inigition and modual. Now.....looking for help in the Saulte Ste Marie area. Is Valcourt an option ? Any ideas for a gig dealer? I'm still able to hit and miss on getting it started, but would like to get it right before it leaves me stranded. Thanks for any help.

Couldn't find Saulte Are Marie. Do you mean Saulte Ste. Marie? In Canada or US?

Sorry to hear

It has been an issue of late. It will only get worse and I would find a dealer along the way and make an appointment to have them replace the switch and module. Valcort being their home should be able to. Will depend on availability of parts..

There is another thread about DESS errors that has over 600 posts. I didn't read them all but read enough to understand that; a) it's a problem that doesn't fix itself - eventually it fails completely and leaves you stranded as you feared. b) an authorized dealer should hook the Spyder up to BUDS and pull the error code, which c) initiates a process whereby BRP replaces the DESS module and ignition switch.

I've never been to Valcourt, so don't know if the factory has a walk-in clinic as such, but maybe a dealer near there could get the parts a lot quicker than a stateside dealer and get you back on the road quicker. Good luck.

Valcourt

The dealer is across the street from the factory. The factory will have the part. Go there!

STARTING PROCEDURE IF DESS IN VOLVED

fWith my DESS failure I was told to get away from my location because something in the immed. area may have triggered it .... and to turn the Spyder ..KEY... on & off 5 times in succession very FAST.... that worked. AND - DEMAND it be REPLACED immediately ...whether it in fail mode or not .... Because EVERY event that has anything to do with any computer on the Spyder is logged in and ...NEVER DISAPPEARS .. NOT EVER .....Not even if it's ( so-called ) cleared from the memory with BUDS..... It's still there ...... Mike

Ignition module

The exact same thing happened to me in Hammondsport, NY. I called several area dealers and none stock this module. One service manager did say that he has yet to have to transport a Spyder for this reason, the they have all eventually started on their own. I made it back to Nashville without another problem. I was also told the factory decided it wasn't necessary to replace the switch. The module is about $130 with an hour for installation.

Valcourt is probably two day's worth of all-out, no-rest riding, at least, from the Sault, maybe more. Close to 800 miles; 12 or 13 hours travel time, mostly on two-lane highway, with 4-lane around Ottawa and once you reach Quebec. I'd be looking, first, for the closest local dealer, or next one on your intended way, and checking there. If the part is not available, usually it can be shipped on an overnight (maybe two-day) delivery. In short, you could save yourself a long ride and additional expense by simply letting the part come to you. Worth asking first, anyway. Good luck.

THANKS TO ALL FOR THE INFORMATION.

I just wanted to thank everyone on behalf of Gary(Owens9Finger) for all of your suggestions and information. We are limping our way to a Dealer located in Powasssan, Ontario who was extremely helpful and ordered the 2 parts this morning so that hopefully they will arrive the first of next week for the repair.

Gary posted the request for help and after checking maps and Spyderlovers we decided it was time to find the nearest Dealer and get the Bike repaired. Sounds like he is not the first RTS owner to have this problem. Every Dealer we talked with which includes about four all remarked that this was an ongoing problem with some of the RTS's.

Appreciate all your help and plan to do a follow-up after our Dealer visit. Spyderlovers Rocks!!
