Help With Trailer Issue

I just bought a 2012 RT Limited and had the hitch package put on. The trailer I have is a 4 pin. Does anyone know where you can get the plug that plugs into the socket on the bottom of the left saddlebag? I know they make a cable adapter but @ alomst $150.00 i really would rather put the new end on my trailer's wiring. Thanks for any help you can give.

I recently wired a 2011 LTD for a friend using the BRP 710002029 trailer harness. She had just had the trailer hitch installed, so it was (I assume) the 2012 controller.

I plugged the harness in underneath the saddlebag, then cut the trailer end off of the BRP 710002029 harness and stripped the wires for testing. It was an easy hook up to a four wire trailer.

You will need to strip and test the wires to be certain, but here is what I found on hers:

Wiring it is not the problem

Tongue harness was the best I could find for the job, not sure you will find a better or cheaper option that looks good and works better

You can buy the individual Deutsch connector parts, but not from BRP. You will need the mating 9-pin connector, pins, blank hole plugs, rear boot, and special crimping pliers. In the end, the harness is as cheap or cheaper if the crimpers are purchased or rented.

I knew it had to be out there somewhere. I found the plug I was looking for on SHS Powersports site under Can Am Spyder Trailer OEM Parts. It is called a Tongue Harness. It has the plug mounted on the end, $82.00.

be careful here the plug you found is ONLY to hook the factory BRP trailer to your car or truck when you are not towing it with the Spyder.... it WILL NOT WORK to connect the spyder to an aftermarket trailer. I made this mistake as well and lucky for me the dealer took the part back and then sold me the Duetch connector harness.

Basically, you have to purchase a replacement Spyder trailer wiring harness to do what you want to do.

be careful here the plug you found is ONLY to hook the factory BRP trailer to your car or truck when you are not towing it with the Spyder.... it WILL NOT WORK to connect the spyder to an aftermarket trailer. The 2010 trailer Tongue Harness (6-wire), or the 2011 trailer Pole Harness (4-wire) will do the job. If you use the 2010 harness, verify the Spyder outputs before connecting. They may not match the function labels, and the colors are not standard. You will not use the brake wires on the 201o harness for a 4-wire trailer.
