Help - This Street Magis fender tips kit is driving me nuts.

Spyder ri

Hi all,

I am wondering if I am just very unlucky or very stupid. I consider myself to be pretty mechanical but this fender
tips kit is not agreeing with me at all. I am already on my second kit as I returned the first kit because neither
wire harness worked when I plugged in into my fender tip harness.

The second kit came in and I

1. Hooked it up to the fender tip harness where I
think is AT THE UPPER CONTROL ARM RIGHT ADJACENT TO THE WHEEL. After plugging it into the harness, the fender light shuts off.

2. I ran the orange wire (supposed to go to the positive coming from the turn signal harness under the cluster) - which I have found.... instead directly to the positive battery terminal to test it. NOTHING.

3. I hooked up the other set exactly the same way and same result.

4. Then I hooked up both sets, one after another, to the other side to eliminate the variables. SAME RESULT.

So my question is:
Am I completely missing something here (wrong location on harness) or has anyone had a similar problem with their kit?

Again, I'm on the second kit with the first kit acting the same way. My Spyder is a brand new 2012.

All thoughts are appreciated.

Did you check your fuses to make sure they were not blown?

when power is applied to this wire it will turn off the lights. So if you power it from your battery the lights will not come on

Thanks - still an issue.

Thanks for the replies. I really appreciate it. Fuses are fine and lights work perfectly.

As soon as I plug in the harness, the fender light goes out. (both kits tried on both sides of the spyder) That's without the orange wire under 12v. power. I guess what I'm really asking is if anyone has this kit installed, are you hooking it up to the harness just next to the tire on the upper control arm, or is there another location that it hooks up to? The instructions are not very detailed.

It's the second kit, so I'm really frustrated with this seemingly simple installation.

Are those things LEDs? Could a polarity issue be cropping up? :dontknow:

Hi. The fender lights are original and I have the led mud flap lights. Polarity should be fine as I installed them correctly. Both lights go out as soon as I plug the tips kit harness in.

You can call me suspicious; but did they cross a wire during assembly? :dontknow:
(Just a dumb thought... and I do hope that I'm wrong!)

The connection (as a remember on my GS) Was half way between the tire and the engine and Under a suspension arm- Think lower but not sure? It is very hard to reach-I had to remove wheel and stretch way under and almost connect it with 1 hand!
