• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Help! Stranded in Alabama with frozen ignition.

:gaah:My post # 29 applies here also :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.......Mike :banghead::banghead::banghead:
I agree . There are two separate problems. 1. the dess code and the computer chip. this is the recall that fixed mine. 2. the fact that he key does not turn is a whole new issue and they are not related.

I know. They are telling me both the tag number and the VIN need to match.

I cannot find a copy of the TSB but if I remember correctly it has nothing to do with the VIN. It's key code only. Maybe someone could find a copy of the TSB and post it.

I hope they get you on your way soon.

KEY

My 2014 RT did the same thing and was not on their list.Got it dealer he took the key and filed the bottom tip off on both sides of the key.Has worked perfect for over a year. That is what BRP had on their computer as one of the fixes.

I checked into a hotel last night here in Daphne Alabama. I'm riding my 2014 Spyder on a tour of both coast. This is day 13 of a 27 day ride.

This morning my ignition is frozen. I can insert either of my keys but neither will turn. I tried WD40 with no luck. No sign of damage to the lock, and the cover was still in place this morning so I don't think it was tampered with.

Here are my questions:

1. Dealer recommendations in Mobile area?
2. Is there a way to manually disengage the parking brake so I can get the bike on a tow truck?
3. Any other quick remedies I could try?

Thanks
Rod

This is why I now ride a Yamaha. No flames please - I'm not trying to be nasty - just telling it like it is.

Not attempting to flame ya, but I'm not sure I'm following you....
Are you saying that you ride a Yamaha because they are trouble-free? Yours might be the first....

 It seems a bit rude of you to rub salt in this guy's wounds.
I guess that manners weren't high on your parent's list of priorities... :D

I'm back on the road. The tech from Hall's Motorsports worked through the afternoon to replace the switch. I'd like to thank them for making me a priority and thanks to all of you who contributed to this thread. I'm 1/3 of the way through my trip. Now it's on to California, up to Washington, and back to Ohio!

Congrats, glad you are back on the road and hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip.

Glad to hear some GOOD news! :congrats:

So what was the end result? What was replaced/fixed/done?

You've seen the survey - Yamaha tops the list on reliability while Can Am and BMW are at the bottom. Are Yamaha's perfect? No, but compared to other makes they almost are. In an case I have owned 2 Spyders and had some good rides on them but I was never comfortable when I got far from home. With my current FJ-09 I never ever worry about breaking down and I'm serious about that. Spyders have their place and if the time comes when I need a trike it will for sure be a Spyder.

Why are you taking this shot in a thread where a breakdown left someone stranded?
That's a bit worse than pouring salt into an open wound...

Your concerns or fears are misplaced. There are many of us here on Spyderlovers that have traveled thousands of trouble free miles on our spyders. Apparently by your last sentence you still ride two wheels and not three. I agree that Yamahammers are a great ride. However, Spyders are too.

If they replaced the switch, did they have to give you new keys? If so, did they put matching locks in the rear trunk and RT-622 trailer?
