There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Help needed in Moab Utah!!

My spyder went to limp mode and started loosing oil, took the pannels off and discovered that the oil is coming from thesmall pulley that drives the belt and feel air blowing from there, anybody arounmd with sugestions? Im 1300 miles from home and dont know what to do, wife and daugther were riding it! Any help would be appriciated!!

Sorry..!!

does not sound like anything your going to fix on the side of the road. The pulley you are refering to runs off the mainshaft so could be the seal there, if you had other noises or vibrations could be bearings as well. Really need to get it to a dealer or home to get into it. Check all the hoses in that area the crankcase breather is around there which could blow oil in that direction as well as give you that air your feeling. Especially if overfilled with oil...good luck...

Ouch! Hopefully some of the mechanical gurus will be able to help you.

Tale of three dealers
Yesterday we were about to leave Idaho Falls and needed some work done on the byke that I didn't have the tools with me to perform. Found three dealers in Utah that were along our route. Called each of them, explained that we were on a 48 state trip and the items I needed done. 1st dealer (SLC) told me that they were backed up three weeks, no recommendations or anything just general unwillingness to give a crap. Second dealer (Ogden), they were out of the part I needed, didn't think they could work me in, and generally didn't give a crap. Third dealer, Utah Valley Powersports in Springville, was very helpful, set it up with me to bring it in this morning, ensured the part was on hand and marked with my name. Very nice people, spent a lot of time talking to Doug (Service Manager) about Spyders and riding.

So if you are in a jam going through Utah, you just might want to give Doug a call. End Quote: "

It appears they are the closest if you decide to have dealer intervention.

Hang in there.

Closest dealer is 300 miles away, stoped by this Yamaha dealer in the middle of nowhere and they are at leastooking at it, that is the only option i have, worse case scenario i will leave it here at a safe place until i go get a trailer

Well, made it home in one piece, the spyder on the other hand is far from ok, had to drive it 6 miles adding oil every mile since leaving my wife and daughter in the middle of the road was out of the question, had the Yamaha dealer looking at it, the oils seal behind the drive pulley blew out, called around the US, no one had one except a big dealer in California, they would not ship to the Yamaha dealer since it was not in their system, i said ok, send it and i will pay the $50 overnight shipping fee, they said ok, it will be at YOUR HOUSE tomorrow!!:yikes:.I explained for the 10th time that i was 1300 miles from home and i needed the seal shipped to the Yamaha dealer, they would ship only to the address on the credit card, they would not do it no matter what i told them, after that i remembered all the cuss words that i learned over the years and let them hav'em:mad:
I posted the same cry for help at the R3owners.net, the Triumph forum for my Rocket3, i was about to rent a Uhaul to bring the Spyder home when a member from Denver said he was on his way with truck and trailer, he hauled it to Montrose Colorado where another member was vacationing with a toyhauler and they told me not to let tha incident ruin my vacation. This guy, i have known him online for 3 years, he took the Spyder to Denton Texas to another friend of mine, only 4 hours away instead of 20 and those two guys won't take a penny from me, not even for gas, taking in consideration that the first guy rode 600 miles round trip!!! I was very humbled!! Just got word that the engine is fried and that may be the end of the Spyder's life unless i find an engine somewhere,
Kinda dissapointed at the Spyder riders in the area, there were a bunch around Colorado but only Harleys stopped to see if they could help:sour:

Thank you for posting and letting us know how this all worked out. I can see both your frustration and anger with how much of this worked out.

It is also good to hear about those who stepped up to help and went way above and beyond to assist you. Being stuck, 1300 miles from home, with family is no fun.

Obviously, the dealer support network failed. What a bunch of baloney from the big dealer in CA. What did they not understand.

Hopefully, this will not be a case where you throw up your hands and :spyder2:'s are no more a part of your life.

Glad to hear you made it back safely.

I'm afraid the Spyder will be always a part of my life since my wife loves it, i just found a motor on ebay and about 30 minutes from where the Spyder sits right now, they say it has 6000 miles, asked them where the rest of the spyder was and they said it was wrecvked and they have most parts, while i'm at it i will buy the power steering pump since mine went out last year and have not replaced it yet, they will check tomorrow if it is a semi automatic or standard, they want $1850 for it, does that sound about right for a used engine?

I don't do enough mechanical work to give good advice on the used engine. Hope some more come on to answer your question. This will put it back in the queue.

Velocity Power Sports in Summerville, South Carolina has a wrecked RS. They may be willing to part with the engine. It was a demo the hit a tree. Good luck bro. Hope things work out.

Thanks guys!!, tomorro i will talk to the insurance to see if they cover anything, the damage was caused by a rock that weged between the pulley and the case, that is called collision, i have full cover on the spyder, will see what they say:thumbup:

Just curious if you called anyone on "Spyders To The Rescue" in that area and what kind of response you may have gotten.

Thanks for telling us why the oil seals blew. Hoping the insurance covers it....

No, did not call anybody, didn't remember:opps:
Called the dealer 4 times to schedule a time to bring the Spyder, had to leave a message, no answer yet, called the Triumph dealer since they are an Aprilia dealer nad the spyder engine is an Aprilia, they said bring it, i took it there and they will start working on it tuesday, i should know the extent of the damage in less than a week, hope they don't scare me too bad:pray:

I was just catching up on your posts and I saw where the CA dealer wouldn't ship to anything but your billing address. While I was in Durango a friend had his belt go bad and the local dealer didn't have one and the BRP Service truck wasn't bringing any with them, he found one at the mega dealer in CA and, like you, found out they wouldn't ship to his hotel. The owner of the Durango dealer wound up using his credit card with the mega CA dealer and they shipped it to his home address/billing address. So don't feel like they were picking on you since they wouldn't even ship a part to to another BRP dealer using the owner's credit card. The practice sounded crazy to me but someone else was in on the conversation and he said he has the same rules for his business. I guess that they have been burned with stolen credit cards in the past.

I sure hope your insurance covers the new motor. Good luck with that and a big thank you to the folks who rescued you and your family.

Now with a cold head i can see their point but when i was broke down in the middle of nowhere i couldn't even see straight i was so mad, it is all part of the adventure and something to laugh about in a few years, in case the insurance don't cover i have a used engine on reserve and a shop willing to install it:)
