• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Help! Honey Moon Over?

I have a 2010 Spyder RT with about 10,000 km on it. I bought it used at 7500 km . From Aug. until late Oct. when I parked it I did not have any problems. Now when I fired it up the last few times this year I have been getting a "LOW OIL" message and it will go into LIMP mode. With engine fully warmed up I have checked the oil level and it is right on the full mark (no foam). I pulled the code and it is showing a P0524 which does indicate "LOW OIL". I have just downloaded an online manual but I was hoping someone had seen this symptom before and maybe it was just a bad sending unit.

Any one with experience here please let me know if you have an idea what to look for first. I do have a 4 year extended warrantee from a third party but if something simple I would prefer to just repair myself as there is a small deductible. Where is the oil sending unit on these critters?

I would also like to eventually replace my disconnected fuel gauge with a manual oil pressure gauge (I hate idiot lights). I kinda suspect a bad sending unit as the ECM is seeing low pressure to be putting it into LIMP MODE. I would also be surprised if there were no oil pressure.

Any help would be appreciated, I will be out for the evening so unable to reply until late tonight or tomorrow A.M.

:agree: Good chance it is the sending unit. Easy to troubleshoot. Replace the sending unit and if issue goes away, you're good to go! If not then you may have a pump, restriction or other problem that will need some serious attention.

Let us know how it works out.

Have to agree..!!

:agree: and :agree: following the suggestions above should give you a good indication of the problem or solve it. Good luck with that..

The "LOW OIL" warning means low oil pressure...not low oil level. I also expect it is the sender if the engine isn't making horrid noises. The sender is located on the lower right side of the engine. If you disconnect the wire, the warning should clear. There are some other tests in your manual in the fault codes section. BTW, to read active fault codes on an RT, press the MODE and SET buttons simanteously, while pressing the turn signal cancel. Active codes will read on the display and can be looked up in the shop manual.

Did you just warm it up or take it for a ride? There were some problems similar to this after an oil change I believe....the problem would go away after driving a bit or bringing the revs up. :dontknow:

Well, I might just order a sending unit, I was wondering about the "LOW OIL" if it was low level or low pressure. Yes the engine is quite quiet and the message is erratic, its was there a couple of weeks ago and then I had done some maintenance and cleaned and tightened the battery connections and grounds and it was gone. Then today it was behaving and out on a short ride it began to go squirrelly. Thanks for all the replies and here's hoping!!!!

Just found this in the 2011 technical updates on the manual I downloaded. Improvements over the 2010 RT, think we might be on to something here! Where is a good place online to order this in Canada. part # 420256912

Life is good again, I have oil pressure and lots of it!!! So I replaced the sending unit and cleared the "Low Oil" and Limp mode. And as a bonus it is the long weekend and maybe warm enough to ride here in the great white north.

talk about fixing spyders through spyder lovers ,man you got to love this site now ill know just what to do im glad your back on the road,:2thumbs::coffee:

Just an added note that I found on another thread. Initially I suspected the sending unit and replaced it. The "Low Oil" and Limp Mode remained, this scared the crap out of me. So off to buy an oil pressure tester (that part was easy) then to find an adapter M10 x 1.0 male to 1/8 NPT female. Found that and got it tested, pressure was about 50-60 PSI when cold and slowly dropped to 20-30 PSI when warmer at idle.

The big tip I found was to clear this "Low Oil" and Limp mode that is still hiding in the ECM from the bad sending unit. The RPMs must be brought up to 3000-3500 RPM for 20-30 seconds. There are other testing procedures in the Repair Manual but the first is to verify that you actually have oil pressure.

I is now 4* C here three more degrees and I will be three wheeling. Have a good holiday weekend!
