Help Brandnew 2013 RTS... it gets TOOOOO hot after 10 minutes riding

I just got a brandnew 2013 RTS delivered from Texas to Georgia. It stalled on me 3 times the first 10 miles. I have it a week and 67 miles on and it stalls very often when I stop at at light or when in neutral.
Also my problem is the whole Bike where you sit, the leather, the little compartment by your thighs and knees gets very I mean very hot after only 5-10 minute riding, so hot to the touch you can actually burn yourself, is that normal?
And my tank is below 1/2 with only 67 miles.... normal?
I am brandnew to a Spyder, any info is greatly appreciated.

Very common it will stall till the ECM gets mapped. I think mine stopped after 500mi.140 mi on a tank is good mileage do the MPG math gal/mi 25-30mpg is normal. I usually refill at 120mi. Make sure the dealer has done all the BUDS updates and do a search all this has been discussed ad nauseam .

Heat issues..!!

some of these 2013's had heat issues. Take it to any dealer and have them check and see if all the updates have been made to yours. Not knowing to much I assume you have proper ryding apparel. They all get hot and in the summer more so. Traffic and slow ryding will also create more heat. You can search these threads for other suggestions. As to gas consumption..one of the top items here.. You are fine. It gets better with use and will vary a lot. Welcome to the roadster world and this site..relax your in good hands...:ohyea:

Congrats on the new :spyder2:

Like Chupaca said have the dealer check to make sure all the updates have been done.

lemon

Apparently you got one of the 2013 RT lemons. Hopefully your local dealer can help you solve some of the heat issues. Other wise you get to live with it or trade it of for a different machine.

Research

You obviously didn't read the threads on here before making this purchase. I made the same mistake, :opps:
If I knew back in January what I know now I would have waited for the 2014 RT models to come out.
Hope you can get it sorted.

Hope it all gets worked out

As said prior consult your dealer, hope he's one of the good ones. Congrats & best of luck. Don't worry too much at this point.

The service bulletin is 2013-9. It is a remapping issue and other issues. I would bet money that yours has not had this performed. It will "reduce", but not eliminate the heat AND you will find that your engine will perform much much better. (especially the stalling or bogging down issue).

I note that you didn't say anything about the lower right hole and heat. Does your spyder have floorboards? Are you not experiencing heat there as well. If you are, there are a couple of threads addressing this issue. (actually more than a couple). You may want to purchase a 2014 Right (honeycomb) panel (or whatever you want to call it) insert and do some modifying. I truly think this will help the black torch hole on the right.

Hope this helps.

Chris

...Another one... :gaah:
There are about a jillion threads in here about heat reduction procedures...
Did you do any research at all prior to writing the check?

My 2013 ST-S had a bad thermostat out of the box. The dealer came to my house to get the bike to the shop and changed it out. So far so good.
I'm not having problems with gas mileage.
Mine will stall if I don't keep the RPMs up on take off..

i personally don't think the new mapping helps, i had it done on mine and my end result was to sell the bike. i really wish you good luck with the bike and try not to get too discouraged with the posts b4 you have tried to see if you can get the bike to where you can ride and enjoy it.

:welcome: I hope you get your issues resolved soon.

:welcome: Sorry to hear that you are having issues at the beginning here. We are speculating about a few things due to some lack of detail.

Issues in such a short time may indicate faulty dealer prep, no dealer prep, and failure to test drive your new :ani29:.

There are some well known heat issues with the 2013's. The update mentioned should have been done. You local dealer should be able to check your VIN # and find what your new :spyder2: has had done, or what needs to be done to bring it up to spec.

Here is hoping that you can get the issues solved quickly. The good side--its under warranty.

take it back to the dealer.

Yep, its brand new. Have your dealer fix it....well, you can try. I tried and gave up, fixed it mostly myself with information on this forum.

Good luck.

Is this an issue with all 2013 models? I am new to the forum and searching out information before buying.

There are many threads on heat issues with 2013 :spyder2:'s. Recommend you give the search function a try.

You will find much pro and con on the subject. The 2014's have turned out to be winners.

The threads on the subject should give you a lot of information to start your search.
