Scorpion

Shoei RF-1200. Much quieter and lighter than my EXO-500. I wear prescription sunglasses so I didn't want another one with a flip-down sunshield.

I have Scorpion 3000 and can wear glasses with the drop down sun shield. Sometimes I wear cacoons over my glasses and that works. However, the sun shields I've encountered are essentially crap. You need uv protection and the benefits of good sun glasses to protect your eyes. None of the helmets I've looked at have high quality sun shields. The Shoei with the anti-fog shield is nice. If anyone knows of a helmet with high quality sun shield that protects your eyes, let us know.

As others might have said, it really comes down to fit, meaning head shape.

I have a long, oval/narrow head so my options were limited.
I went with an Arai signet q.
Shoei gt-air or neotec were the others I considered but nothing fit me like the Arai.
I will never go back to a cheap helmet but $700 was tough.

My wife is a little more neutral so she got a Shoei Qwest which was half the price of mine but she loves it. Says it is super quiet.

On my motorcycle, I've never wanted/needed a modular but on the spyder I could definitely use it, especially when it is hot out and I don't want to remove my helmet to drink water.

Schuberth modular is the quietest helmet available. Because it is modular, they are able to make the neck roll even tighter than a full face.
Guy at work got one of the previous year models at a huge discount and loves it.

I went to Cyclegear b/c they are close to home/office and have a 7 day return/exchange policy. I was there for nearly 2 hrs trying on different helmets and walking around to test how long before I got a headache.

^^ robertl above has it right -- first determine your head shape: round, oval, or long oval. There IS a difference among the helmet lines.

I also have an Arai Signet Q (my third in this series). It's a full face and very comfortable (for the price -- over $700 -- it ought to be!). Arai specializes in oval and long-oval helmets.

My Arai is now several years old, and I'm thinking about getting a modular helmet, but all the reviews I've seen are mixed due to the trade-offs in their construction. First, I have to find a line with the right head shape.....

My wife and I have Shoei RF-1100s, though they're getting close to the end of their shelf lives. I originally looked at the RF-1200 but, much to my surprise, it was terribly uncomfortable. I thought about the GT Air but we really want something that's Snell rated. So, sometime in the next year I'll be getting a Shoei Qwest. If it fits right my wife will probably get the same, though she may also look at Arai's.

We both have Scorpion half helmets for parades.

I'm kinda partial to 3/4 helmets myself. But if you want to be real cool, I've noticed a doorag or just the hair on your head with a cigarette dangling from your mouth might work.

Arai all the way!

We both wear hi vis Arai Signet Q helmets. Originally owned Can Am helmets and suffered in them from day 1, with forehead pain after only 45 mins of riding. We were miserable, so did tons of research and found that Arai makes the only long oval and thats just the ticket for both of our oval shaped heads...who knew! WAY higher quality than the Can Am helmets, as well!! We liked the Schuberth modular but they are intermediate oval so the Arai is a better fit for us (and a better price). We have been comfortable and happy with the Arai Signet Q's !! Only wish we hadn't purchased the Can Am helmets and wasted our money on something that will live in the closet forever. That's the way it goes I guess.

I have a Shoei modular and like it, but looking for something 3/4th for the hottest part of summer. Might try the Shark.

Plus 1 for Cyclegear. I bought a cheaper modular and had severe headaches and discomfort from it. Traded it in for the Shoei with no issues, even though in different state/store from original purchase. I thought they were longer than 7 days for exchange but could be wrong.

I've looked at the Bell Mag-9 Sena as well; not sure if I'll go that way though.

I know this is a very subjective question, just looking for ideas.

Finally should be getting our RTL buy the weeks end, yet we still have not decided on helmets. kind of just looking for ideas. We know we want light weight and have been looking at several modular helmets. Yes we know we have to try some on for fit and such. If not to much trouble can we see what you wear.

I've been using a NEXX XR1R carbon for a few years and just replaced it with a new one as I stumbled upon a sale online. It's all carbon and one of (if not the) lightest helmet on the market. My first one was $700 but the one I just got I found for $250.
