There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Hello New Spyder RT Owner here!

Well, I traded in my 2003 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic for a almost new (bought it with only 436 actual miles on the odometer) 2013 Sypder RT.
I found this forum and have been avidly reading up on all the posts here and thought I had better introduce myself.

Due to the now very cold weather in Colorado I have managed to just squeeze in about 120 miles so far on the bike. The Wife and I really like our (mine :2thumbs:) new Sypder and are really looking forward putting some miles on it.

I do all of my own wrenching. On my HD I had to take the primary drive apart twice: once to replace a broken drive belt and a second time when the stator and voltage regulator failed about three months later. I know if I had to pay the dealer I would have paid well over $1000 labor out of pocket for these two "events". ughhhhh.

I have been reading as many posts as possible but, when I read the posts about heat...I have a very different perspective...my old air cooled HD could probably put even the hottest Spyder to shame. It really baked my legs a few times over the last couple of years. That is one of the biggest forcing functions for the switch to a Can AM...liquid cooling. Additionally, I am really impressed with the anti-lock brakes and other vehicle safety systems.

Based upon all of the posts it looks like I will have some potential heat issues to deal with so I plan on taking the Tupperware off and wrapping both header pipes with heat tape in the next couple of weeks.

I want to thank everyone for all of the posts and info. This a great a forum with a lot of knowledgeable people and I look forward to visiting often.

Cheers to all!!!!!

Congrats on your new ride. You may want to wait before wrapping your pipes because all 2013s are not affected by the heat and yours might be one of them . Drive it when it gets warmer out and make sure it really gets hot before you do all that.

:chat: Welcome to the world of Spyders where we get more Smiles per Mile. Enjoy your new ride and watch for Spyder events all around you. The next (and Biggest) event is Spyderfest at the end of April in Springfiels Mo. last year there were approx. 1200 Spyders in attendance. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, you will get some very good advice here from many knowing people.

Welcome to Spyderlovers!! Yes, I would recommend that you ride for a while as you may not have any heat problem. I also traded my 09 Harley Heritage softail for a 2013 RT-Limited. I did this the first of February 2013. I rode it all summer here in Central Florida, and yes it is hot riding any bike during the summer here. I had a heat shield on my Harley to keep from burning my right leg from the rear head and pipes etc. When they did the recall for the heat shield on my RT, there was no evidence of any heat problem. I rode it for 4500 miles, I know this is not a lot of miles, but I never found it uncomfortable. I don't know why some have a problem, and others don't, but I just wanted to let you know that there are many 2013 RT's out there that do not seem to have a heat problem, where some have a severe one. I have now traded it for a 2014 RT-Limited, but not because of the heat problem. It was totally because of the other changes i.e. engine, transmission, etc.

Again, welcome to the group, wishing you many miles of smiles.

Welcome

Even tho I have a two wheeler in the shed, I find myself riding the rt 90% of the time.

go for it DYI the more you work on it, it becomes a obsession. Welcome to Spyder therapy !;):ani29::cheers:

Welcome I also have a 2013 RT. No heat issues on mine. I did wrap the right side exhaust pipe by the MC though:yes:

:welcome: and :congrats: Before you do some pipe wrapping, do you have any heat issue? Some of our 2013 owners have no heat issue. Put some more miles on it you may not need any pipe wrapping.

:welcome: Sounds like your next purchase should be a shop manual. They are available from several sources online.

That is excellent advice. :2thumbs: It so happens that was first thing I did.....

I found a site and bought an electronic copy of the Spyder RT service manual.

I have be n reading through it and getting familiar with the bike.
