Heated Grips On RS?

Have any of you installed heated grips on your RS? If so, what brand did you use and how do you like them? Were they tough to install? :dontknow:

I just ordered a pair of Kuryakyn 6341's, and was thinking about installing heated grips at the same time. I've never used them before and don't know if the aftermarket ones are any good...

Any info would be great...

We've used the Heat Deamons inside the NMN risers. Had to substantially modify the handlebar stubs to get more depth for the heater and for wire exits. Also mounting of the switch was a fair amount of work.

They're not the highest wattage heaters but better than going without. Throttle side is cooler: the heater is on the inside of the aluminum handlebar stub which then transfers heat to the grip.

After reviewing the work and cost, I recommend heated gloves even though the handle grip heaters are more convenient for spur of the moment needs.

Thanks for the response. I thought that they might be a real pain to install...especially with bar risers. I've never used heated gloves before, but I'll probably look into them. Can anyone suggest some good brands to check out?

My 'better half' has a pair of Gerbing heated gloves. When I checked into heated gear 2 - 3 years ago, it seemed like there were about 3 manufacturers of the gear, Gerbing being the most memorable of the group. She's had them for just over 2 seasons (and wears them with a heated Jacket under either leather or with fabric jackets). The ends (a.k.a. Connector socket and plug) have been more fragile than I would have considers normal. Repair was needed for the broken conductors/open circuits.

I installed a set of Oxford Hot Grips on my girl friends spyder more than a year ago and they still work great haven't had any problems. They heat up fast and get pretty hot on the 100% setting. Install was simple just some widening of the inside diameter of the hot grip it get it over the ridges on the spyders throttle sleeve. Also they do still draw power while the unit and bike are off so a switched line is the best way to go instead of direct power from the battery as they state in the instructions. Here's the link to where I bought them there's not many dealers in the US. And the price is actually lower now than what I paid for them.

Have 'em on W's. Work very well. Did have to replace the original control pad, as it would not turn down. Immediate response from vendor. Will probly replace the control pad with a Heat-Troller control module prior to cool weather this year.

Thanks Guys...

Pauly1: Thanks for the info on the heated gloves...they may be something to look into...

D-Nice & JNT: The Oxford's do look pretty nice and I bet they work well.

FYI: If anyone's interested, while looking around, I also ran into these:

They look like they'd be pretty good and they're made in the U.S.

I also saw an interesting item from Oxford...they're heated "wraps" that go over your regular grip...easy on/off and pretty cheap...they might be the way to go for a lot of people:

Ok...that's enough thinking about heated grips in JUNE...even if I am in New England! :D

I put Oxford Heated grips on my Phantom (gs/rs). They're awesome@!

I live in Eastern PA and spent December through May riding with them on. I've been through 20 degree weather and I have to tell you that they have been a real life saver! I usually have to toggle between 100% and 75% because at 100% (depending upon speed, grip, temp outside etc) it can start to burn my hands through the winter gloves.

Now to be honest there is a limit though.. after about an hour of riding 75 mph+ the tops of my hands still start to chill up even though my hands are on fire. So it won't solve all your problems.

Installation:

At first I didnt think the ones I ordered would fit because one side looked bigger than the other but it was correct. I had to take a razor and cut off my stock grips (which was scary because I never messed with grips before). I then did a partial test fit to figure out where the wires would be and went ahead with putting grazy glue on the bars and slapped them all the way on. Wired the controller up directly to the battery and used relay to turn them on when the spyder comes on.

If you want I can probably find my camera and snap a few pix of where I mounted the controller.

This thread is very helpful but............ What about my passenger ??? She gets colder before I do. Any grips for the passenger handles ???

I am finding this thread helpful. Thank you. I ordered the cruiser oxford heated grips for my 09 RS. I was told I needed the 1" grips and the cruiser was the only 1". I have raised bars so I hope that won't be a problem? I tried to click on pics but I am assuming this thread is a few years old so they don't come up. Can I just raise my seat and install or do I have have to take it apart to get to the battery? What is the shut off switch that I would need to install to insure they turn off when bike is off? Also can someone post pics of where the controller is mounted?
Thank you
Sheila

What I find...

Is that my palms do not get cold nor my butt so after looking at all out ther found the best for the RS is heated gloves and liner. Driver with dual control o you can have higher setting on the gloves, and single control for the passenger. Deflectors and heated grips probably would work better if going with grips...
