• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Heat questions

Florida newbee here, I have logged about 200 miles on my new 2011 RS over the weekend and wondering about the heat issue.
My right foot/shin are getting really hot when in motion and my wife says hers gets really hot when stopped.
I see there are some products from spyderpops available so i imagine this is normal, any feedback?
Also it is running at 6 bars on gauge pretty much all the time, it has been 82-87 degrees and I live in pinellas co. And it's mostly city type driving but even on the open road cruising at 55-60mph its still 5-6 bars.
Normal?

Thanks.

The heat throw off is pretty normal.. The running hot seems to be much less normal.. In 15000 miles mine has never run hot and I ride hard and have ridden in 98 degree Florida heat.. This year I got Baker Air Wings and that really dissipated the heat and improved my comfort level in hot weather riding.

Cowtown put some "wadding" stuff next to the fan to make the air go thru the fan and that brought the bars down from around 5 or 6 to 3 and on really hot days would run 4 maybe 5. The Baker Wings might take care of the other heat problem.

Contact Spyderpops he put a Heat Management System on my RT at Spyderfest and it is wonderful and not expensive at all! Between the airwings and Spyderpops system the heat issue is almost gone.

Check the level in the coolant bottle when cold. I run mine at the full mark measure when cold. It was low, when I got it from dealer, just added distilled water to fill to full.

Also from Florida and understand the heat issue. This item is a WINNER!

I have the same heat problems, so I checked out this site. It said the spy-fan cam will work only on 2008 - 2009 RS models. I have a 2010 RS, so will it still work? I am of the understanding that there is no difference between the 2008, 2009, 2010, or 2011 RS models.

:welcome:

Heat on the right side is normal and can be an issue. Running at 5-6 bars is normal on the RS in stop and go traffic and dropping to 4-5 on the road. I think the 2010 models came with the added baffles and heat dams like SpyderProps sells. This may be why they are not listed for the later models. Good footware and long pants are a must in the RS.

Thanks for all the great input, I'm glad to see that these issues are not abnormal and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with my RS.
The spyderpops system and heat shield are relatively inexpensive and appear to solve these issues so that may be the way to go.
