• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Headset Recommendations?

Hubby and I are looking at getting headsets so we can talk to each other while riding down the road. But I admit, it is a little confusing. We really aren't needing to pair up with our phones as that's one of the reasons we enjoy riding so much......no one can call and bother us with work stuff. Any recommendations? Pros and cons of one over another? All info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have the Scala Rider G9 and they have been good. I think if you search on Scala or Sena you should come up with several threads where these have been discussed in detail. There are pros and cons to both. Good luck.

Scala q2

We use the scala q2's and are very pleased with them. Occasionally loses comm for a few seconds, but comes right back.

We use the Sena brand. Best mod we have done!

Very easy to set up and control.

We use it for music pairing and simple communication. You can bluetooth to your phone if you desire.

We got the Sena SMH10 headsets from Motorcycle Dave last year, used them for many long trips during riding season for bike to bike and music streaming from our smartphones. Batteries last all day and they have firmware updates too. Easy to install in your helmets with many different styles. Revzilla has many videos of how to work them on youtube.

My favorites would be the Starcom1 for a wired system or the SENA for wireless. They probably have capabilities beyond your desires, but they are the best working alternatives. Besides the intercom it is nice to have some music in your helmets. Just connect an iPod and go...or rig it up to the Spder audio system.

We use SENA headsets. Had them about a year. Like the intercom ...works well with very little wind noise. We also installed the Bluetooth dongle kit from BRP so that we can listen to the radio, IPod, and connect with cell phone...works well. We elected not to Bluetooth our GPS into the system as I just look at the GPS and not listen to it normally.

Good luck on your decision...gathering data is the best way.....

If you think you'll upgrade to a dongle ...then get the Sena headgear....we had the Scala and the dongle is not compatible ....

I would recomend....

Any of the SENA units, since you don't want to use it for your phone or on board radio
I would get the SMH5 SENA it is a low cost set up that works well and if you want to listen
to music it will also do that as well
check my website for pictures and cost or just call me.

Another sena vote

We just got the sena 10, for same reason-intercom. It installed easily on 2 different helmets. Sound repro is great, even on open face. I now might try pairing my I phone to it, so options are available for future and like being able to Download future upgrades.

Works great with the iphone, put music on the phone from itunes and you are all set.

You might want to consider using wired headsets. Of course there are advantages and disadvantages to both wired and Bluetooth. With wired headsets there is no need to recharge and no need to pack a charger on a several day road trip. The trade off is that you have to plug your cables in and you can't pair your phone or talk to other bikes. I use J&M headsets and love them.

J&M makes some fine products!

Sena

We have used the Sena SMH10's for years without any problems. First Gen and the latest upgradable. The latest is awesome and just became able to connect to other manufacturer's Bluetooth units. I can say nothing bad about them.

The newest 20's coming out will have built-in fm also. Not sure how good that will be but it would be unnecessary for the Dongle to use the CanAm fm.

WE will use CB with a couple of Harley friends and when going to Sturgis so I had to add hard wired set up. Probably an expense I will be kicking myself for but I got tired of not hearing them talk about how awesome my bikes are (in particular their jealousy concerning my new Spyder RT)....hahahaha.

Motorcycle Dave is a sponsor and is very knowledgable.

Sena

Hubby & I use the Sena SMH10 and love them. We bluetooth our phones with music to the headsets and I answer calls if I feel like it.

:agree: We have the Sena SMH10 and love them. I have the Sirius app on my iPhone and we listen to Sirius/XM. If we hit a prolonged dead spot, then I can change to iTunes on the iPhone. I really like having Sirius/XM without having to purchase a separate radio.
