Headlights after switch off

Is there anyway to program the headlights to remain ON a little longer on the RT? I barely have time take my helmet off before it goes out.

It's easier to reprogram you to take off that helmet faster...LOL. No way to actually reprogram it, as far as I can see. It appears that it may be hard wired through the load-shedding relay. If so, it might be able to be done by replacing the relay, but you would have to find a matching relay that had a different time delay.

No, he's telling the truth in a hightly technical way. He just means there is a built in, Timed Switch component. If you can replace it with a similar unit with a longer delay you'd be good to go.

OK, I wouldn't kid you about the load-shedding relay, but although the left MSL headlight switch is tied in through this relay, it is after the cluster, and I cannot tell from the diagram how it functions in relation to the headlights. If the cluster controls the logic, it is not programmable. Taking a second look, I also see that the headlamp relay itself is actuated through the ECM. In case you wondered, the ECM cannot be reprogrammed either. If you could find a time-delay relay (off-delay) that could be substituted for the headlamp relay, you may be able to accomplish what you want...you'd have to experiment. In my opinion, this is not an area you want to mess with. A stick-on LED light on the dash would be easier and safer...or carry a small MagLite in your glovebox.

You could probably put something in line as well with a timed delay relay. But as Scotty says, you're playing with fire and the chances of failure may be high. I'd just leave it running if you need the light that bad. Shut it off when you don't need the light anymore. Or wait until the sun comes up to take your helmet off... :roflblack:

I'll try to remember to look at this on the schematic. I'm pretty sure the cluster does the time delay. I can guarantee it would take open heart surgery to delay the delay (say that 10 times fast) and pretty sure it would get huge thumbs down from BRP. But I bet it could be done.

RT LIGHTS

Considering all the BATTERY associated problems the RT seems to have I wouldn't think you would want to have your headlights on without the motor running. ?? ..... mike ....:thumbup:

I was just wanting the lights to stay on for maybe another 15 seconds so I can open the door on my house. Probably easier to put a timer or light sensor on my porch light. I know. The Clapper! BUT WAIT! If you call within the next 15 seconds you can get TWO CLAPS for the price of one. Not to be confused with 2 cases of the CLAPPER.

Thanks guys for your help. Maybe BRP in the future can put in the mo time relay for mo safety.

Just a couple more suggestions. I sometimes use either, partly for much the reason...although my porch lights usually are on. I often remove my helmet before I get off the Spyder, and before the engine is turned off. My main reason is usually to remove my earplugs, but it does buy some time to hook up my charger before it gets dark in the garage. I also frequently just wear my helmet into the house. Of course I store it there, so that is pretty convenient for me. I will admit that the neighbors look at me funny when I walk out to the mailbox wearing my lid, though.

Once I pull into the garage, I hit the kill switch, leaving the key on. I then get out of the saddle, remove my helmet and gear, remove belongings from the trunks, turn key off, remove it, and head into the house - the lights go off just as I turn the knob to go thru the door. This might work for you too.

This is what I do too.

I have sensor floodlights timed to shut off 5 minutes after they go on.
The only problem the wild critters set them off also.
