There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Hauling the RT

Price

I have a 2014 RT Limited and bought a 5 1/2 foot X 10' trailer from Northern Tool and it works super!! have hauled my Spyder to Spyderfest in Springfield, MO and to the Black Hills with this trailer and no problems. also use it to haul my riding tractor and other hauling uses.

THE BIG F from Omaha
What's the price of that trailer at Northern Tool? :dontknow:

Sometimes it makes more sense to trailer than ride , so I have a small tilt trailer we picked up , for taking the bikes to the shop as we live 100 miles from the best one we use . And last summer my wife trailered one of them out to Wyoming instead of riding as I did not want her riding alone that far, her Pathfinder had no problem towing the trailer and it was her first time towing anything .

repurposed for our 2 spyders...

We "repurposed" this to be our toy hauler since we already had it and the truck to pull it.

very clean on the inside. Have a mattress in the nose and cots and chairs in the back and we have a mobile hotel room! :)

STARLIFTERS AT TRT!!

I would like very much to be able to ride long distance in one day or several days. At 79 a couple hundred mile day wears me out for a day or so.
that said, I use a open trailer. Mine is a "drop Tail" made for the Spyder. Tied down according to the manual (assuming 2014/20l5 are the same), my 2010 RT does just fine. I do add one more tiedown, loose on the foot pegs, as a safety factor Others use diferent systems, but with memories of a refueling truck breaking some of the tie downs on take off in a C-141, I prefer a little reduncy.
Safe Ride to all who can safely ride all the way or to keep peace in the family.

Nothin' like 4ea.25000lb cargo chains per axle and afew cargo straps wouldn't take care of!! oh,how bout palletized and do a LAPES DROP at your next destination? Don't forget to lock the rail system before take off!!!! Enjoy the ride!!

TWO RTs

Anyone hauling two RTs? I've seen a lot on SL about hauling, but not for 2, unless I've missed it in the thousands o posts ;)

I've been emailing with Gary of Razor ground loading trailers. He can make a 19' that will handle 3500lbs, which will be fine for 2 RTs. Gary's price is what I cann reasonable including a little farkling of the trailer. I've also visited with a mfg north of Dallas that makes a really neat sliding bed trailer and he will make it custom length with custom anchoring positions, but the price is much higher (2.5x).

Here's the thing - in 45+ years of driving, I've never hauled a trailer. I'm a hauling virgin so I need all the help I can get with tie down sources, erail sources, etc. I know there are as many opinions on open vs closed as there are SL members. Add a cover to the RTs while hauling (I've seen it done with high end cars)?

Any help is appreciated.

I prefer enclosed trailer myself. I have a 12' with 4' wedge nose and 8' wide, tandem axle. I have 2 removable chalks and only requires 2 tie downs. I can also use the trailer to haul 2 snowmobiles or two quads and a automatic boat loader so can load my fishing boat with trailer on the roof with two motor stands in trailer for my outboard motors.

We have (2) 2014 RT's and purchased an enclosed Low rise Haulmark Trailer. You can Google Haulmark to get more information on their trailers. We haul our bikes between our homes in Fl and NC. We pull the trailer with our SUV and the trailer handles like a dream. Easy load on and off as it is a low rise so you ride the bikes on and off. We purchased a 18 x 7 V nose and the bikes fit in well.

Thanks so much! I'm looking at the Haulmark low hauler right now....

All we use is a Utility Trailer

We bought a CROFT Utility Trailer- loads easy and rides nice. ONLY drawback is if we leave and it has rained mud gets kicked up on the trailer from the truck but otherwise not bad for $1300.00 Trailers well---

Trailering and RT

I would like to hear about anyones experience with trailering the RT, I have 2014.

Like Jack Herbst, we haul our 2011 RTS-SE5 in an 7'x12' enclosed trailer. Our trip is between the summer home in Bayfield, WI and the winter home in Tucson, AZ, 2100 miles. In Bayfield, the trailer also serves as the Spyder's garage. I wired an 110 volt outlet on the inside of the trailer for a smart battery charger and so it's ready to go if there's been a period of inclement weather. Seems to work great for our needs.

Any suggestions for a trailer to carry two RT's?

Thanks

Yes, we haul our 2 RTs on a Sloan Kwikload roll back trailer. Easy drive on loading. No ramps, no steep inclines, no sharp breakovers. Easiest loading trailer I have ever owned.

This one was actually designed for my GT but with the full length tie down rails we opted for, it works great for the spyders too.

Millenium Solution

I've spent a LOAD of time looking at this from all angles. I'm convinced that there are several right solutions. It all comes down to commiting to a solution.

I have a good quote for a 7x18 low haul custom trailer from Millenium. V nose, extra interior and exterior lighting (duh), black & white checker flooring, black coin flooring on the loading ramp, etrac, upgraded wheels and tires, blah blah. It's interior is only 5'6" by my choice.

I'm likely going to pull the trigger tomorrow. I'll pick it up from their Waco, Tx factory in Feb.

Thanks to everyone for your comments and help!!

The problem was the attachment points broke off on the truck. I forget where they were now. somebody had replaced the bolts with standard quality bolt and they sheared off. I was not a loadmaster, just a courier ( 3 years), single loadmaster on board. We just happened to be able to help. Would have liked to on a plane for lLAPES drop, but to old now.

Forget to lock the rail before take off would a O. S... moment for sure.

If you were/are a loadmaster, thanks for doing a good job. When/If you screw up load/balance to bad, you usually do not get to talk to anybody after take off. the acident board does it for you.
thanks for serving
