• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Has anyone seen or have info on this electric Ryker shifter mod?

I came across this very short video researching how to make my wife's Ryker easier to shift without adding a gawky jockey shifter - large or small versions are ugly IMO.

I was not able to find anything out of the normal shifter mods until this YouTube short:

Why isn't this a thing? :dontknow: The link on the video only takes you to their Facebook page, I don't use Facebook, but didn't see anything on the landing page.

If there is no info, then maybe this can start some new innovation for the Ryker community. I'd be up for installing one. I can see this being actuated by a single switch or rocker switch with minimal electronics. I am only hesitant to develop and install as my wife's Ryker is new (less than 200 miles as of today) and being under warranty I am not too keen on opening it up at this point. If there were a kit or a known process, that would be another story - time to remove panels and get it done in a day.

There was a guy making a gear drive shift mod for the Ryker. It took a second or 2 but I'm not sure if they are still available.

I'd love to find that information.

The video I found is using a DC linear actuator. I'd be interested to find the specs on this part...My search goes on. Thanks for the input!

Yes, that's what he was using.
 
Amazon has a 12 VDC linear actuator, 9/16-in diameter with a 6 inch stroke for $40. Need to research further for 2 inch stroke.

Spotted the video in question a while back. Looked a bit slow to activate for my liking so I went with a 'gawky jockey shifter' which works fine. The electric mod might need a failsafe switch to prevent accidental activation though....good luck with your investigations, would be great to see how it turns out :popcorn:

Yes, I've seen this mod in action. It is aggravatingly slow for my taste and a bit disappointing. Not a fan of the Jockey Shifter but some like it. Still, the OEM setup is less than ideal as well. It's a 'Pick Your Poison' operation at this point.

I would have been happy to leave things standard but not having a left leg meant I had to lean down to activate it with my hand which got old fairly quickly, especially as my back isn't that flash either so for me it was a case of needs must. It is a bit quirky but I can live with it.
 
I thought about the Jockey Shifter, but went with MartinTheVlogger's Minimalistic Reverse Extension. Does it's job and is out of the way.
 
I followed the BLR Tuning video and moved the factory shifter a couple of notches on the splines so that it's positioned back toward me, made all the difference in the world, wish I'd done it day one.

I also moved the lever on the spline. Also while putting Ryker in reverse hook your heel over the Top of the lever.

Good call. So many people do cool things, but don't think through the "what if's...". :thumbup:

I'm going to look up these parts, create a list and see how feasible (easy) it will be to install. I'm glad it doesn't require any special bracket or custom parts. Hardest part seems to be the electrical wiring - and that's because I always over engineer things... lol.


One Question - Does this mod still allow for manual actuation if the actuator fails (without tools to disassemble)?

Logically, I wouldn't think so, knowing the gear drive design of the actuator. I'd suggest a pinned quick disconnect or something similar to avoid an issue should the actuator fail.

I'm wondering if you might be able to run the circuit through the brake switch to eliminate an accidental application. Though that would not be foolproof either, since if you set the actuator switch on, when you hit the brake pedal it would engage and that wouldn't be good either.

Yes. The ball joint has a spring clip pin that can be removed without tools to disconnect the actuator.
