I took my 2016 can am f3 s into the shop 3 weeks ago because it wouldn't start sometimes early in the am. Then I was driving down the road and came to a stop sign an it would not down shift from 4th gear. I turned the bike off for around 10 minutes an then turned it back on an it reset for me to drive back home now problems. So I take it into the shop to find out what's wrong. After 3 weeks fighting with brp for them to be able to work on it. They now tell me that the cup holder that I had on there that hasn't been even on the bike 3wks caused the wires to rub an spark a weld which messed up my gear box at my handle and also messed up all kinds of wiring issues down inside the motherboard. Does anyone know if this sounds like I'm just getting screwed around or could this actually happen?

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.
Has anyone ever had or herd of the plastic claw cup holder messing up your wiring sys

I guess if there was any drilling involved with attaching the cup holder, then it is possible there could have been some issues with the wiring. If it was just a clamped on cup holder like I have, then they would be bull:cus:ing you. More info on the type of cup holder, where, and how it was attached would help.
I can't figure out how to post a pic of it but it's called a Bear cup holder.
There is no screws drilled in it just clamps around the handle bar.

Well if this is the correct cup holder, I can't see any way that it could possibly mess up any wiring. I would run as fast as I could from that dealer.

If it's the clamping style, did you clamp it over the wiring harness on the handlebars? That might have done it.

Yes this was the cup holder that was on there.
I might could see it likely to happen if the cup holder had of been on there longer than 2-3 wks and if it was a older bike but this bike is brand new just purchased it maybe 2 1/2 myths ago. ;(

runs along the handlebar somehow "wrapped" into the clamp. If so I would think that dealer could easily show you the wear issue. If that is the case than I would have to believe that it is (unfortunately) owner error.

I suspect the clamp was over the wires. In order for the clamp to be tight enough to work, the wires would get pinched. Wouldn't take much vibration to cut through the insulation and short out.

It would have to have been installed in such a way that the wiring was pinched or rubbing on the sharp edges. On the F3's the wiring housing runs on the outside of the bars. It would take some time to wear through and the right wires would have to have touched. It would be clearly visable and they should show it to you. I would have a look.....:lecturef_smilie:How much was damaged due to this is a whole other question and harder to see.....but it is the reason for all those fuses...

I didnt know the F3's had wires running on the outside of the handlebars. Learn something new everyday.
