Has anybody else tried this riser yet?

Hadn't thought about that, but now that I check, steering lock is gone, as Warrior confirmed.

And yes, I feel more steering authority. Don't know whether it's actually leverage or just that my arms are at a more natural position now.

I wonder if they can make a longer pin so that the steering lock will work...this is important because if your parking brake goes, you're in trouble.

How easy would it be for them to do this?

Quad showed me where steering lock locks into and it can modified a little to work with this riser block. Will need to drill another hole thou, to secure extension with 2 bolts to securely lock the handle bar. I am not home so can not post pic but I am sure quad is working on it and will post:D

Riser itself looks good and the "neck" that's created by handlebar being higher is not bad. It does look juuuuust a little bit out of place but I would rather have that and look of stock handle bar

I have the BRP 1" riser and the steering lock works fine...I use it whenever I park...

Yes, it's obvious that they planned ahead for the 1" riser, because there are 2 holes that the pin can fit into, 1" apart; stock uses the lower of the two, 1" rise uses the higher of the two. (or if you crank your bars over, the edge extends an inch higher than necessary for stock height to catch the pin) Since there are 2 holes there, I will be experimenting with adding a short piece of steel (or thick aluminum), bolted to those existing holes, extending up with another hole 2" above the top stock one... again, easier to describe with pictures. This will give the locking pin a new hole (or edge) to grab.

Granted, someone with wrenches and determination can remove the new locking bar, but they could also remove the stock assembly (8 bolts instead of 2) to overcome the lock anyway, so I see no serious difference in security.

I'll post with pictures once I have a viable solution.

i spoke with ron the owner of rt sales and he asked me to fax him what quad's idea to make the handle bar lock again looks like and he will come up with something and deliver to EVERYONE who already has one of his riser and they do make them in 2 inch also for 99 bucks which i ordered.

mark will you draw up your idea and fax it to rt sales? attention Ron?
and put your number and my number on it so when it's ready they will be able to call? their fax number is 260 623 6349 :2thumbs:

Thats mark aka quadmaniac and his spyder. thank you again for taking time out of your schedule and letting me check out your spyder:bowdown:

check out the warning on that box:D last pic is the product thats in the box

Wait...are you saying that Ron also has a two inch riser?? That might work better as I already have the BRP 1" riser...I don't think I need 4" of riser...1" is almost enough for me now...3" would be perfect.

Also, the mod. that Ron is going to make will fix the problem of the locking steering? That'd be great...I don't lock for security...I lock because some places I park are on a hill...the lock is important for this...

Thank you guys for addressing this issue. I'm very grateful as if this problem is fixed, it looks like a viable option for me...3" total inches and the ability to keep the factory handlebars...plus, an installation that is not too hard...yahooo!!

I spoke with Ron today...what a nice guy. He said that he and engineering will have a fix in a matter of days...

He also confirmed the 2" riser is compatible with the 1" BRP riser...in fact, he said that 3" is as far as you can go without worrying about pulling on cables too much.

Looks like I'll be going with the 2" and 1" BRP for 3 total inches...should work well for me...I think the 1" is almost good enough...2 more inches should be perfect!

i felt that 3" was too much for me and 1" was not enough so 2" would take just enough pressure off of my wrist, hopely.

Yeah...I already have the 1" and I know that 4" will be too high...so, the next logical step is to try 3"...if it's not right, I'll just remove the BRP 1" and leave 2"...my feeling is that 3" total will be just fine, esp. for the longer trips.

Ron seems to be a really good guy and he should have a fix quite soon...

got the :cus: riser on after struggling 2 hours trying to get the low 2 bolts out.
it's not the riser manufacturer's fault. it's the position of the bolts and me not having the right tools. it's solid and looks good but there is one problem...
it's too high for me. i did get the 2 incher but it added quite a bit. i did not want this much rise but 1 inch brp block was too low...
i guess it's just one of those inbetween sizes...
well guess i will just have to get use to it.

pics and ryding impression will be posted later:D

Sorry it feels too high, hopefully it will grow on you... If not, I'll bet you could get them to machine a 1.5" rise for you, using the same CNC program, just shortening by .5". Worth a call? Then I'm sure someone here would be happy to buy the one you have now.

Good luck and great riding!

After reading QM's post, I ordered the riser (on back order). How do I get on the list for the steering lock adapter? I guess I'll give RT Sales a call next week, unless someone knows that this will be an automatic deal. Glad you guys were able to come up with a workable solution, Thanks!

RT Riser

I ordered the RT 2" riser at 9AM on Monday and somehow they got it to me at 2PM the next day. It looked a little rough but some 150 grit sandpaper and some flat black spray paint fixed that up. It installed as per their instructions except that with only two inches I didn't need to snip any zip-ties. I just pulled up the wires and it worked fine. Big difference for me. I am 6'1" but have a 35" sleeve (gorilla's in the blood line someway) so it is perfect. I can't believe the difference this makes. If ever BRP decides to offer another option it should be a 1", 2", 3" or 4" riser.

RT Sales... not so good....

I ordered the 3" riser on July 1st, and they charged my visa on July 2nd. I have yet to hear from them about shipping the product I already paid for. So far 2 calls and an e-mail have gone unanswered. I checked online and it says I have no order history.

Not real happy with RT Sales at this point.

Call and talk with Ron...he is the owner...he'll make sure all is good.

As far as the steering lock correction goes, we'll be looking at fall as the time he should have that done...he's having his engineering dept. go to it.

It's not just an easy extension of a bolt...apparently, the mechanism is a bit more difficult to manipulate....but he's on it.

When you call and talk with Ron, ask him the progress on this...

how can i tell if i have the brp 1 inch riser installed?the dealer told me it was already installed when i bought my spider (demo) but i want to be sure before i order this riser block so i don't go too high and cause problems with the wiring.thanks in advance.

if you can not tell, take your spyder to a dealer and do a side by side comparison with another spyder without the riser.

Finally got it after 20 days. They ran out of material, item was out of stock blah blah blah. Riser that I received is black (good thing). Riser was wrapped loosely in paper along with the bolts and washers so riser is scratched (bad thing). A 2 cent zip lock bag and some bubble wrap would have gone a long way.

Hopefully it will get installed this weekend (Thanks again Sean), we'll give it a test run and report back.

they must be getting busy or sloppy. mine came well packed with bolts in place and was not going anywhere because it was tightly wrapped around the block before they packed it.
