There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Hard To Find Neutral

MarkLawson

RT-S PE#0031
On my 2010 RT SM5, I am finding it difficult to get it into Neutral coming from either 1st or 2nd. It tends to skip Neutral and move to the next gear. No transmission or clutch work has been done & the RT has about 30K miles. Shifting in lower gears can be stubborn, which is probably a symptom of the same problem.

Ideas on how to make the necessary adjustment? Thanks!

I don't know if there's any adjustments possible, but you might want to check and make sure that all of the connection points in the linkages are nice and tight...
Good Luck!

Sounds like the clutch is dragging a little, either from wear, air in the system, or something starting to go bad. How does the lever feel? When was the last time you swapped fluid?

Your symptoms sounds a lot like others that have posted with a problem with the clutch. So I agree with the others that is the first place to look.

Little checking..!!

All of the above...a fluid flush is a good idea if its been a year or more, checking that the shift lever is tight on the splined shaft will help keep the shifts tight. The clutch lever is adjustable as to the distance you pull for disengagement. Then there is always the oil thing, clean oil (the right spec's) and proper levels keep the clutch and tranny happy...

Sounds like an oil change and clutch fluid change are due, and two easy things to do, if for no other reason, to get it taken care of and ruled out.

It is hard sometimes on mine when it is hot out.
Even Ann on her pre 2014 models had this when the temp gauge on your dash starts to read above 100F. That's about when I start to have a harder time getting in neutral.

Then as you approach 4,600 mile oil change it also start to get more difficult to get neutral as easy at any temp. Once you get your oil change, this clears up.

Finally having switch to Amsoil, this issue has almost disappeared! I only have it now when my dash temp shows over 100F.

My experience anyway.

I appreciate the replies and will look into flushing the clutch hydraulic fluid. Looking at my maintenance records, I am also due an oil change. I'll use the BRP full synthetic, as I have always done in the past and see if that clears up the issue.

I'll report back after I do the above.

Thanks again.

Alright, I went to Mountain Motorsports in Conyers, GA to buy a couple of oil filters for my Spyder. The parts girl brings out a couple of boxes with brand names on them I didn't recognize. I asked of they had the BRP brand filters and she went back and found a couple. When I got back home (30 minute drive each way, i found she had mistakenly given me oil filters for a Sea-Doo. I called them up & explained the problem & they apologized and said they did have the correct filters in stock. I went back and they swapped them out, no problem. When I got home and went to put the spare away, I found I already had 4. Need to remember that next time!

So, I changed the oil and cleaned the oil tank screen, which was the first time, but it had very little debris in it, so I was pleased. With fresh oil, the shifting issue is not resolve. Unfortunately, I failed to get an oil level check before I drained the old oil, so cannot say with certainty on the oil level, other than to say that I had only 200-300 miles on it since I last checked it, so it likely was fine.

Thanks everybody for your help!

Get a 2015 RT.

Mark, do you have a service manual?

There is a procedure to test the clutch vacuum assist. Might be yours is blocked up which can happen?
The easy way is to test how hard it is to pull the clutch without the bike running. Then start up the bike and see if it is easier to pull the clutch handle. If not your clutch assist is not working.

Also flush the clutch fluid and replace it. Mine was super nasty looking after about 7K miles.

Here is a video for how to do it.
