Handlebar & Seat Newbie Question

Howdy,

I just bought my wife an 09 SE5 Spyder and I wanted to get real world experiences regarding Handlebars and Seats.

My wife is 4' 11" and I'm looking for opinions on a riser or handlebar that would not make her lean forward but take a more upright posture when riding.

Also if anyone has any experience with the "RS Lowrider" seat sold by Ultimate Seats, one of the sponsors of this Forum, I would like to hear your opinions too.

Does the Corbin Seat make the rider sit upright ? Does it make the rider sit closer to the handlebars ?

Thanks in advance.

Ray

My wife is 5'-1" and likes the Helibar riser. I had the 3" riser on the Spyder and it wasn't good for her. She has not tried the 3" or 4" bar risers.

She also has the BRP comfort seat and likes it as well.

Tex, thanks for your reply. I failed to mention that the bike has a BRP comfort seat.

A Spyder friend of ours is very petite and she liked the Kewlmetal riser (replacement console and MC handlebars) the best.

I'm 5'3" but most of my height is in my legs. I am very short waisted. I have the HeliBar riser too and like it very much. I think it pulls the bars back towards you and raises them up at just the right proportions. I find them very comfortable!

I have only sat on a Corbin seat for the RS. To each his own, but I did NOT like it!! It sat me too far away from the handlebars. I didn't like it at all.

I too have had my eyes on the Ultimate Lowrider seat. It sounds just about perfect for us short ryders. I also ryde with hubby on the back and think he would like the passenger seat on the Ultimate seat as well.

Money for modifications must be spent very carefully as we are both retired. I wish I could attend a large Spyder gather so I could sit on some of the custom seat options. I need to have first person testimony or have sat on one myself to be sure a particular seat is right for me.

As usual. Decisions, decisions!!! If you get the Ultimate seat I will be real interested in your review.

Safe ryding!! And :welcome:

Dynamo,

I agree with you on being able to "test drive" the various seats out there before taking the financial plunge. As I mentioned earlier, the bike came with the BRP comfort seat so we're going to give that a chance before we decide on another seat. We're going to pick up the Spyder this Thursday.

The comfort seat is great...really want to spend a lot of money to replace it before you try it for some time?

Bone,

Not looking to get rid of the seat right away, I'm just looking for rider experiences with handlebar/seat combinations that work for them.

:welcome: Low Rider seat may be just what you want I've seen them in person and they would definitely be a benefit for the height challenged;)

I am alos about 4'11" and have the kewlmetal risers as well the the ultimate seat. I love them both! I am very comfortable on long rides and with aggressive riding as well. The risers are about 3-4". I sit up straight and don't hunch over. I was also uncomfortable with the forward seat ing when I first got my spyder, plus I have a cup holder! PM me if you want further info I have set up some pictures here of the seat as well. Des did a great job on the seat. I would also recommend a back rest, it makes a world of difference on long rides.

Joyce,

Thanks for the review...that's the kind of info exchange I was hoping to get. I'll PM you with a few more questions.

Jim,

Thanks for the info...I'm hoping we can see a "low rider" seat up close once we start bumping into other Spyder riders.
