• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

hand brake

Len at Cowtown is installing one my wifes RT (hopefully this week). It is pricey but since she has had surgery on her right foot peace of mind in stopping quickly is worth it.

I looked at several options for a hand brake, and nothing compares with the ISCI kit. It's top quality.

I've installed one on my RS and friend's RT - both SM5s. Note: the RT version is a lot tougher (about an hour) to install than the RS version.

However, if I had a SM5, I would have an ISCI handbrake. I don't miss it or need it on my SE5.

Hand Size

my concern with theISCI han brake is that it seems to take a big hand to use it..Does anyone know if the lever can be brought closer?

Not right now. they ISCI tried to souce an adjustable lever from a guy in europe but he went out of business.
I played with a protype handle they are looking at making at Spyderfest this year. so something is in the works.
only other way someone modified the handle somehow a year or two ago (I think was is SOPHER?) by grinding one side of the adjustment rotating knob down so it would sit closer.

but there is no EASY solution as the design of the system....

ISCI does have an alternate lever. I had wanted their handbrake since its inception, but the reach to the lever was too great. Bought the handbrake at Spyderfest this year with the new lever (which is black). The lever has a sharp angle in it and allows me to get most of my fingers on it. I only wish the amount of pressure required was less.

The ISCI system does NOT brake into the hydraulic system of the Spyder, it actuates the brake pedal - that's why the pull is so hard. However, this is the right way to go, and by far the safest.

Their system uses its own hydraulic system... so it's not simply a matter of a manual cable and linkage driving the foot pedal.... since it uses hydraulics to do it the amount of pressure required is much less than a direct cable setup.

Great product and works well... but I too would like an adjustable lever..... or at least offer different levers.....maybe can heat them up and bend em' a bit closer to the handlebar.

In order to get ALL of the travel out of the brake pedal, I have to pull the brake handle to within a 1/4" of contacting the grip. I can actually squish it hard enough to make the lever touch the grips but that last 1/4 might be some flex in the system (I noticed the square bar that the slave cylinder is mounted to flexes some:yikes:). So in theory you would only be able to bring the handle 1/4" closer and have all the available brakes. I don't think it would be a noticeable change. It does pull fairly firm when you're just sitting in the garage testing it out but I've never noticed when riding that the brake required a significant amount effort when riding. The whole kit is top notch quality components but there's got to be a way to make it a easier pull and a shorter throw. Maybe we need a hydrobooster:dontknow:? We compared the master cylinder on my spyder to my friends 2009 HD Street Glide and they are the EXACT same thing minus the chrome coating. So if you're shopping for a different lever you could look for a harley lever.
