Halogen lamp problem - where do you get them? How do I fit them? + more?

My 2019 RT limited needs a headlight lamp. How do you get to it? What needs to come off? Is this the right part # for the lamp (219800136 HB3 65W)? That part number gets the bulb and the black socket it fits in also. Do I need the black socket where the harness connects?

The number you posted is a 9005 bulb, any hardware store or Wal-Mart would have that.

As to fitment, I don't have a clue.

The complete process is in pg. 138-142 of your operator's guide. While it sounds intimidating at first reading it is not difficult. Removal of the body panels in discussed on pg 42-44. If one headlamp bulb has gone out save yourself some time and trouble and replace them all at once. Do not touch the halogen bulbs with your bare hands as the skin oil you leave on the bulb will significantly shorten its life. Take the old bulbs with you to an auto parts store and they can match them exactly at substantially lower cost than from a BRP dealership. If you are uncertain about removing and reinstalling anything take pictures with your phone before you begin.

If you ever entertained having LED headlights, this is an excellent time to make the switch. Lamonster and Slingmods sell nice ones. I have Slingmod's 360 degree ones and they put out excellent but different high and low beam patterns.

Do exactly as JayBros described. I just replaced one headlight bulb and it goes just like he mentioned. Walk into any Napa parts store with your burnout bulb and you'll come out with exactly what you need to replace the OEM blub(s). My research on LED bulbs finds they are very costly and there are a bazillion different makes and models. Most of them take modification of the spydre's bulb housing. There is also a myriad of beam patterns that are not at all conducive to the spydre's application. I'm not willing to spend that kind of $$$$ for something that I may not be happy with, or, would use that much because I try to avoid riding at night. I'm sure there might be an LED bulb out there somewhere that's compatible with the spyder's unique lighting system, but I think the jury is still out on that one.

My son warned me after I'd replaced one halogen headlight bulb that the second was going to go soon and it did, in less than a month, so there I am going through the rigmarole of having to take the time to take everything off my Spyder again.

Regarding changing to LEDs, in 2019 my touring partner and I had to leave a motel before sun up in an absolutely frog strangling rain storm and rode four hours through the p***pouring stuff. Sure, we slowed to a safe speed and increased our distance between each other but looking in my mirrors at the LEDs on his F3 I was amazed at how much brighter they were. When we finished the tour I immediately purchased LED headlights and fog lights from Tricled. My safety is worth the extra cost; should have done it sooner.

I’m stuggling with the manual instructions. Bad pictures. Is there a video on this somewhere? Thanks in advance.

Most of the YouTube videos are well before MY 2019 but doing some refined searching might get you close or at least show some commonality. Investing in an online service manual might be worth the investment. https://canammanuals.com/

Thank you JayBros. I just found a video for a 2014. It’s close enough.

Good, I'm glad you found it satisfactory. One of the things the '14 has that I'm not certain of but suspect the '19 has is one of the high beam light assemblies anchoring bolts, the top center one, is quite recessed and requires a 3/8 extension and 10mm socket. When reinstalling that bolt I suggest you put the bolt in the socket and wrap a bit of painter's tape on them, the socket and bolt head. When you've tightened the bolt and withdraw the socket and extension the tape will remain on the socket. Also be careful and have a supply of shop cloths or old t-shirts to put under areas where you are going to be removing bolts and nuts so you don't lose anything down into the Spyder's notorious black hole voids.

JayBros has some good tips there. Once, when I was adjusting the headlights, as I withdrew the long extension, the 10mm socket snagged on something and popped off and fell into oblivion. Nothing I could do would make it reappear and I gave up trying. Weeks later, I pushed my bike out onto the driveway to let it warm up and out of nowhere, the socket appeared at my feet.
The painter's tape is an excellent idea. Thanks JayBros.
P.S. I will never buy a 10mm pistol for fear of losing it. :gaah:

Yup! Never lost a 9mm pistol (well, one... but there were extrordinary mitigating circumstances! ) or an 11mm pistol, but sure's eggs hatch little chickens, a 10mm pistol would juuust outright disappear! :yikes: It's ALWAYS the 10mm gear that walks! :banghead:

Sorry, but I just hadta! :p . She made me do it! :dg1: :dg2:

I hope this reply isn't too late for you. If it is, maybe it will help someone else that's going through the procedure.

Slingmods has a YouTube video that will guide you through the process. It's located here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BDPuf6_SBo

I used the process to run USB cables from a charger in the frunk to the top of the dash.

Good luck to you.

I second the wisdom of changing both bulbs. My GL1800 burned out both low beams within hours of each other - twice! Not a system fault and it was five or more years apart.
