• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Had the DPS update...

Now the bike won't track straight. It's a constant effort to keep it in the center of a lane. I tried a light grip, a tight grip. Every bump I hit especially in a curve, makes the bike jerk left and right. It is actually a bit scary and takes the fun out of riding. It used to be dead on and relaxing. Any thoughts please? Dave

dps recall

:yikes::yikes:I also recently had this done same thing can't keep spyder goin steight down the road. exits and on ramps are scarry as hell pardon my english. even the slightest curve is really jurkey. bumps in the road that cannot be avoided are hazzardous. I never had a problem before just so relaxing to ride. now i'm a little worried. to sum the hole thing up its floaty and jerky. not an enjoyable ride. I set up an app with a differant dealer for 2 weeks and lets see if they can bring spyder back to real life. what I say ( if it ain't broke don't try to fix it). So good luck to you and just try to hang on. I' chime in and let all know what the outcome is.in a couple weeks.:gaah:

Yikes... I'm having my DPS done tomorrow at motorycity powersports.... I hope it goes well...

They have the unit in stock.. otherwise, I would have went to Roseneau.

dps

I had mine done at cement city harley. they sell and service spyders. My upcoming app is with c&c powersports in brighton mich. I'm hoping they can fix her, being we are very limited on places for service. good luck to you and you're spyder.

Mine was really bad like that until I did the front end alignment. Now it handles the best it ever has. Maybe something to look into.

My DPS was done over a year ago, The only difference i found was it made the steering lite, [Twitchy] But it only took a day or so before i got used to it. That said some Spyders had to go back to have the Dps re calibrated [angle sensors] after the new DPS was installed.

It sounds like there is something technical wrong with the re-install of the DPS. Mine felt like lighter steering at first--but I also got used to that quickly.

I have not had to fight the Spyder or anything like that to steer it.

Did your dealer take it for a test drive?

While you certainly should get it checked out in case there is something wrong, many have found that it just takes time to get used to how the new DPS units handle. I think it's a 100% improvement-- much smoother ride, etc...... but it did take a few miles to 're-learn' how to ride...

Yup, I agree with Dan. It's weird though, because I have had one (kathy's RSS) go really light like Dan and others have indicated which was dealt with by re-training and a slight air pressure adjustment. Mine (14) was exactly the same - the new DPS unit never caused any real change in steering feel, handling or anything, which was good because I went in with 14 kicking and screaming! :roflblack: I liked the steering the way it was and I didn't want them to screw it up, But they did good! all in all I'm glad I got them both done.

Gotafly, I would definitely take your machine back and have them review their work. Something isn't right there...

It should not be that big of a change. To me it just seemed to turn easier and "quicker" but I got use to it on the way home from the dealer.Maybe check your air pressure and play with that a little.I have no problem now and love the way it steers.

OK, another noobie question: DPS is Dynaminc Power Steering. SO what was the recall for? Dealer checked my 2009 (picking up tomorrow or Friday) and there were no recalls noted.
Thanks.

Steering Problems After DPS Recall

The Fact: If you pull your Spyder out of the shop after a DPS recall job, and it won't hold a line, the problem is the mechanic blew it and didn't re-calibrate/re-set the steering angle position sensor. It actually involves using BUDS and a procedure of moving the Spyder forward and back, left/right in a particular sequence.

I'm not an expert on the mechanics of the DPS recall; however, the 98.9% truth is that if your Spyder was tracking fine before DPS recall; then they apply the recall and your Spyder is all over the place, it's improper re-set/recalibration of the steering angle position sensor.

Certainly could be lack of proper alignment/zeroing of the new DPS and sensors...

Also--- check your tire pressure -- the new DPS doesn't like it much over 17 lbs for the fronts!

You'll get some bouncing around if your fronts are up high like at 20lbs.....

I was thinking about alignment, interesting, for they are saying I just need to get used to the new feel. I feel it is way beyond that. Thanks!

I had it done some time ago.... no differenve at all to speak of, maybe a little smoother.. as far as tracking goes, it tracks straight and true and no issues with bumps at all... take it back to dealer.. they caused the problem imho...

Hmm ... Mine are always at 20 or so ... but not more. Seems fine. But ah ... Fly's got an RS ... me an RT-S. The RT-S is 230 lbs more Spyder, dry weight.

Someone brought up a good point in another thread- not all pressure gauges read the same. So, firefly's 18# may be 20# on your gauge. On my gauge I have 20# front, 30# rear and I have ride-on. I have a GS/RS and weigh 176#.

:agree: I posted about that, 3 gages all read different, What i meant by my original post was that if someone says they put 20l# in their tire, It means nothing unless you're both using the same gauge. But it got lost in the vapor's :D
