Had dealer installed new rear tire now says needs front tires to pass NYSI?

Hello all,

Took my RS up to a dealer to have my rear tire installed and to get a NYSI with about 16k on the odo.
They are now saying they want to replace the fronts.
I didn't think the fronts were that bad.
One looked okay, not too much wear and the wear was even.
The other showed what I would say is slight uneven wear on the inside shoulder.
Though that still was not bad, good for one more summer out of it.
So would the uneven tire flunk the NYSI?

Best,
Y

Your call..!!

Fronts usually out last the rears. If they have not hit the wear limit mark they should be good. The marks are in between treads. A small diamond mark on the side wall of the tire will indicate where. Could rotate them because of the wear..imho...

The uneven wear on the one would do the trick if it is down to the wear indicators anywhere at all. It also points to a suspension problem...worn shock bushings, worn a-frame bushings, worn ball joints, or a worn tie-rod end on that side. Better have the dealer take a closer look. Something wore the tire out, and it will wear out the new one even faster.

As usual; Scotty's right! I've also heard it said that if you're down to the wear bars anyplace on the tire, they can flunk you.

Thanks for all of the replies everyone, :clap:you guys are the best.

I was told by them that handiness may have something to do with it.
That right handed types cause more wear in cornering on one side and left handed types the other. :dontknow:

I'm an ambi so I'm sot sure what happened here.

Ny motorcycle inspection only requires 2/32 's of tread. Just an FYI, but if its that close I would be changing them..if it were me.

While the left front will typically wear faster then the left because right turns are sharper than left turns, the tire should still wear evenly. If it does not then you have an alignment issue (as Scotty pointed out). If you do not get that fixed your new tires will not last as long as the last set.
