Had an interesting occurrence with Reverse gear this morning...

I had just gotten to the office after a brisk 28 mile ride in. It was a nice ride, though.

I went to put the Spyder into Reverse, and it began acting up. At first, it wouldn't go to Reverse. Then an 'E' code came up on the display. Then, I got Reverse. And, back into the slot (okay... I always park diagonally over the line :)). So, I tried it again, and the display showed 'R' & 'N' (neutral), both. Then; I got Reverse.

Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

Hey Greg;

I have had this occur also and what I find is if you let out on the clutch slightly the R appears and I am in reverse. Seems to do it if I am in a hurry.

Error code

I have the same problem with reverse and the "E" error code and letting out the clutch some does work. The error code only happens once in a while I probably should tell the dealer but haven't. Oh well.

Greg, I won't have my Spyder for a week yet, but I have heard of this happening to other Spyder owners. Sounds like a faulty gear sensor. I would take it to the dealer and have him check the error codes, but I suspect that is the problem. :dontknow:

I'm heading out in a few minutes for a ride. And, will find a lone parking lot, and check the situation further. Hopefully, it isn't a faulty 'gear sensor'. But, if the problem persists, I'll notify my dealer this afternoon, and take it from there.

I sure hope it doesn't hinder my riding for the weekend, though. We have quite a bit riding to do. Not to mention, the 300 miles or so for the Shiloh ride on Sunday. :)

Hello Greg,

Glad that you are liking the bike. My machine will do that occasionally when shifting into reverse or first. The manual say that this is normal and to just let out the clutch a little bit. The first time that this happened I was at the intersection of Winchester and Riverdale. Horns were honking and I was going nuts until I by chance let out the clutch and finally got it into first. Thats when I looked and found that bit of info in the manual. I have never ridden any other bikes that were that picky about first and reverse.

I just had mine in for its initial service and I asked the technican about error code when they hooked it to the computer and he said there was none. So I figured no sensor errors or anything else important was occurring. So I just drive it and try and be a bit more patient about putting it into reverse

In most cases the Spyder is in Reverse. It is just not indicated on your dash panel until you begin to let the clutch out. Ryde Safe and Enjoy:thumbup:

Hey Terry! 'Just got back from a 20 or so mile lunchtime ride! Just beautiful out today! And, yes; like a couple of folks had mentioned, I tried Reverse by just letting the clutch out easy. Perfect! I went over the Kohl's parking lot, and experimented. :thumbup:

Then; I went to grab lunch at Popeye's. And, when I left, Reverse was behaving normal, again! :clap:And, I came back to the office (reluctantly, I might add :)), and it was still acting fine. Great news, either way!!

Terry; let me know when you want to ride. I leave the office at 5:00. If you want a nice ride to Oakland this afternoon, just call me, or email. :)
