Had an accident today....

Not sure how I missed seeing you guys in Durango.... but did get to see your son-in-law......

Ask him what his super-hero powers are that I bestowed upon him.......;)
I thought You were avoiding us....when I would ask about you....someone always said you had just left.

So this would be a new super-hero power of his? I'll ask next time we talk....this should be interesting!

Every insurance company has different rules , but when it comes to a bike with a bent frame , I think they all total them out .

Some states allow , If you have the title you can buy the spyder back and won't have to register it as a salvaged title . Just fix it and no one will ever know . I never heard of a carfax on a bike ?

I would say go online and see if you can find 3 spyders the same year as yours with close mileage , for sale , and that might give you an idea of what the insurance company is gonna give you . If they aren't close , you do not have to accept their offer and can ask for more , you can fight them for what you feel it is worth .

Again - different states have different rules .

Good luck , glad you are feeling ok , hope everything works out the way you want it to , but one spyder would be better than none !

Just to get this straight....if Seth's jumpsuit is black with a silver cape...you would have a silver jumpsuit with a black cape?

Correct.... but I doubt we would go with something as mundane as black and silver... even though that is the color of my soon to be ex-spyder...... :-(

Did the insurance adjuster make the call finally?

It was very nice to meet you and talk to you today Firefly. Hope all works out well as far as your replacement Spyder and again, just glad to hear and see that you're ok :D

Dan, Good to hear you came away unscathed but sorry to hear about damage to the Spyder. Hope you can get the Spyder checked out and get a chance to rest up before heading out again. Stay safe.

Hey Joe--- good to see you again too.... well... believe it or not.... NO DECISION YET....... arrrrrrg

He was on site at Cowtown ALL DAY.... sat in his car all day looking up parts online, etc.....

Then late in the day wanted to take photos... so we had to go back and tear things down further so he could snap pics....

To me-- frame is BENT...... should be a done deal.

I'll try and post pics later.. but more is messed up than we thought. Left front shock and upper shock mount is bent.. shock is damaged... it must have raised up really high in order to do the damage it did. Front part of upper frame is messed up... where the trunk mounts there is 1" variance from one side to the other.

I've started to get a bit sick to my stomach over losing this bike--- it has meant so much to me. I removed the PE #1977 tag from the handlebars.

I'm stressed not knowing what the insurance is going to do. If they decide to have it fixed... then I've wasted a few days hanging out.. although I've been able to hang with great people and eat at Mo Hicks every day.... ;-)

Had 6 Spyderlovers at Cowtown today....

So I need to find a way home.... could be on a new Spyder... RSS or RT... or rent a car... or fly... either way PE #1977 is not coming home with me. If she's going to be fixed then it's going to be done at Cowtown. If it's trashed then the salvage company will come take it.

Insurance man told me if I wanted to buy it back as salvage it would be like $8,500.
That seems nuts to me.

I'd gladly take a decent settlement and pay them $3,000 for it... but not $8,500 ! Heck.. I'd be lucky to sell it for $10,000 in fully working condition with 56,000 miles on it!

One thing I have learned is I should have had extra coverage above the standard $3,000 accessory coverage. I easily have $6,000 - $7,000 in extra's on it. So I asked the guy... If you're only covering $3,000 of them--- can I take off any that are over that amount? Didn't get a real clear answer... but I'm taking some stuff off.

---------------------------------

Not sure what I'm going to do for a new bike. I'm really torn over this .

Options:

1. New RSS -- have to outfit it similar to old Spyder.
2. New RT -- wouldn't have to do much to it.
3. Used RTS - wouldn't have to do much to it.
4. Used RS - would have to outfit it similar to old Spyder.
5. Wait until 2013 models come out and see what the big release mentioned at the owners event is all about.
6. Take the money and RUN!

I can't imagine my life without a Spyder in it... I really can't.

My dad always told me... as long as you have options... you're doing okay... it's when you only have one option that things are out of your control.... but my brain just isn't processing all this very well.

I have really started to like the RT I've been riding...... plenty of pep and the handling is great. Much more comfortable than RS.

But can I make the transition to this 'old mans bike' and still remain 'young'.... lol.

Even though this accident didn't involve and high speed technical riding.... I think those days may be behind me. After looking at the damage and how hard I hit --- I'm very fortunate to not have been hurt or killed. I have too much to look forward to in life to take unnecessary risks like running the Dragon really fast or the Million Dollar fast and crazy like I did this past week. I need to find a riding style that is more about enjoying the ride... not the risk.

Will sleep on this and see what I want to do tomorrow.....

RSS, new or used...if you're used to the sporty feel, you'll probably miss it if you go with a RT...just me two cents... As far as speed and twisties go, I wouldn't have a bike of any kind if I couldn't fully enjoy the ride...maybe this is because I primarily ride with two wheelers who really move...if it's ever time for me to get a RT, I'll likely get a two seat sports-car instead...

Have you ever ridden an RT?

I've been riding one for two days now and can tell you that it corners pretty much just like my GS.. and this RT doesn't even have the Elka's installed yet.

I was shocked because I've heard from so many RS riders that the RT handles like crap, can't corner hard, etc...... and I have to say.... they're wrong. I had no problems hitting 35 mph corners at 70, etc...... Also had no problem breaking the rear tire loose from a dead start (don't tell Len.... lol).

It's no about the sporty RIDE... the RT can handle it... it's about the LOOK for me... where the RT looks more classy.. less like a snow-mobile, etc...... but more of an older persons ride... which I'm trying to avoid becoming..... lol

As far as get up and go... I'm also impressed at how responsive the RT is...

:agree: But with as much sh*t you gave me about considering trading for a RT because "Some Girl" wants me to get one, I promise to only tease you about 1,000 times for getting a RT!!! :roflblack:

Hey! I've got the perfect solution! Take my GS and buy me the RT! That way you still have a '08 GS SM5 and I can make "Some Girl" shut up...I mean "happy"! ;)

:D

The first RT I rode (2010) scared the crap out of me. It dove into the curves and made me very uncomfortable. The next 2 I rode were great. I really have nothing against the RT, other than I can't afford to switch at this time. Poor Some Girl!

With the way I've seen you drive--- you'll get an insurance settlement soon too.....:roflblack:

Increase your accessories coverage!!!

I don't think my Spyder insurance needs to be increased...I think it's my LIFE insurance! Between my riding and Some Girl's motives, I'm DOOMED!!! :gaah:

(so...if I disappear, you all know who needs to be investigated!...or do you?!)

"Just because I'm paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get me"!!! :lecturef_smilie:

Dude!! If you get the green/black RSS then you and I are definitely getting matching leathers and riding around as The Spyder Twins. I love Seth and he's a way better rider than me, but he's too thin to be your twin.

Dan, just thought I would mention it since it's something we talked about yesterday. I called Progressive when I got home to up my accessory coverage from $3,000 to $5,000 and the cost came to an extra $15 for the entire year. Something to look into for when you get your next Spyder.

Nope... The question of a total loss is tied to the value of the bike versus the cost of the repairs... They'll pay for whatever route is cheaper! :gaah:
A frame (For an RT) cost about $1500 ; I don't know how much of the labor cost is tied to braking the bike down to the last nut, bolt and washer to transplant everything over to a new frame, but I'd guess that's actually a larger issue...

Since your bike is five years' old; I'd start preparing for the total loss; arm-wrestle Len to get the decent price on that RT! :roflblack:

Please keep us informed as to how this progresses; Good Luck!

Glad you're OK buddy and for this sort of unfortunately accidents we took the risk every day. Or you can fly to the events.
I would wait until 2013 models come out and see what the big release mentioned at the owners event is all about. The RT would depreciate (old model) and the RS-S can still be a replacement for your unit. I was out of Spyder ryding for 8 1/2 months and still enjoyed every single day that I was back in the saddle.
