Hey Joe--- good to see you again too.... well... believe it or not.... NO DECISION YET....... arrrrrrg
He was on site at Cowtown ALL DAY.... sat in his car all day looking up parts online, etc.....
Then late in the day wanted to take photos... so we had to go back and tear things down further so he could snap pics....
To me-- frame is BENT...... should be a done deal.
I'll try and post pics later.. but more is messed up than we thought. Left front shock and upper shock mount is bent.. shock is damaged... it must have raised up really high in order to do the damage it did. Front part of upper frame is messed up... where the trunk mounts there is 1" variance from one side to the other.
I've started to get a bit sick to my stomach over losing this bike--- it has meant so much to me. I removed the PE #1977 tag from the handlebars.
I'm stressed not knowing what the insurance is going to do. If they decide to have it fixed... then I've wasted a few days hanging out.. although I've been able to hang with great people and eat at Mo Hicks every day.... ;-)
Had 6 Spyderlovers at Cowtown today....
So I need to find a way home.... could be on a new Spyder... RSS or RT... or rent a car... or fly... either way PE #1977 is not coming home with me. If she's going to be fixed then it's going to be done at Cowtown. If it's trashed then the salvage company will come take it.
Insurance man told me if I wanted to buy it back as salvage it would be like $8,500.
That seems nuts to me.
I'd gladly take a decent settlement and pay them $3,000 for it... but not $8,500 ! Heck.. I'd be lucky to sell it for $10,000 in fully working condition with 56,000 miles on it!
One thing I have learned is I should have had extra coverage above the standard $3,000 accessory coverage. I easily have $6,000 - $7,000 in extra's on it. So I asked the guy... If you're only covering $3,000 of them--- can I take off any that are over that amount? Didn't get a real clear answer... but I'm taking some stuff off.
---------------------------------
Not sure what I'm going to do for a new bike. I'm really torn over this .
Options:
1. New RSS -- have to outfit it similar to old Spyder.
2. New RT -- wouldn't have to do much to it.
3. Used RTS - wouldn't have to do much to it.
4. Used RS - would have to outfit it similar to old Spyder.
5. Wait until 2013 models come out and see what the big release mentioned at the owners event is all about.
6. Take the money and RUN!
I can't imagine my life without a Spyder in it... I really can't.
My dad always told me... as long as you have options... you're doing okay... it's when you only have one option that things are out of your control.... but my brain just isn't processing all this very well.
I have really started to like the RT I've been riding...... plenty of pep and the handling is great. Much more comfortable than RS.
But can I make the transition to this 'old mans bike' and still remain 'young'.... lol.
Even though this accident didn't involve and high speed technical riding.... I think those days may be behind me. After looking at the damage and how hard I hit --- I'm very fortunate to not have been hurt or killed. I have too much to look forward to in life to take unnecessary risks like running the Dragon really fast or the Million Dollar fast and crazy like I did this past week. I need to find a riding style that is more about enjoying the ride... not the risk.
Will sleep on this and see what I want to do tomorrow.....
