Had an accident today....

Glad you made it safely through the ordeal. Keep us posted about what happens with the Spyder.

Wow! sounds like this was your lucky day, of course I'm sure you being an experienced rider helped a lot. Glad you are Ok.

Thanks for the well wishes and offers for help. Right now I'm in a hotel room in Macon MO resting from the heat. Yesterdays ride in 109 temps really did a number on me. I drank TONS of water... but it was still too much for my body to handle and I think we rode too far in that kind of heat. I actually got the CHILLS when it was 109 out.... strange. Pretty sure body was telling me something!

I can't help but think I could have avoided this accident if I was 'sharper' on the bike. I was pretty tired from the day before and not 100% on my game... and I knew it.

I had been looking at the windmill farms and as soon as I looked forward again--- BOOM... it happened. I don't think the truck even realized he tagged a couple of them... and I had no time to really think much. I wasn't that close to the truck.. but add the delayed reaction from being groggy AND from looking at the windmills.... and that makes for a bad situation.

I had to keep doing various things to keep myself alert along the ride... not a good sign! The long roads without curves can be very hypnotic........

Lesson to be learned.... if you're not feeling on your game... take a break.... do what you need to feel 100% again.... and be very careful when gazing around at the landscape!!!

Bike is running okay... MPG went down for some reason.. maybe PC V got disconnected... I know my AFR gauge is no longer operational.

At low speeds it feels a bit odd... like it won't hold a perfect straight line. At high speeds it feels pretty normal.. hard to tell with all the winds around.

I ran her 80 for a good 2 hours after the accident... so I think she's pretty solid.

From the rear something just looks wrong.. it's like the rear tire and swing arm are tilted....towards the side that took the hardest hit.. where the fender came off.

From the front things look even. Can't see any damage to a-arms, frame, swing arm, etc.... but something is amiss.

So now deciding what to do... I'm sure I can make it home... but really would prefer Cowtown to do any repair work. I can do it myself for the most part... but have not done an alignment... and not sure why the rear is looking tilted.

It really looks as if the rear tire is hitting the pavement more on one side than the other......

Happy to hear you're okay and survived what could have been a really bad outcome. Good riding and being alert paid off.

Glad you're okay. Hope the Spyder can be fixed without too much work. A hit like that and still running 80 mph - proves the Spyder is a pretty tough cookie.

Dan- also glad you and the Spyder are ok. While at Cowtown, have another person evaluate YOU to make sure you are heat recovered.

Sorry Dan............. I hope you can get it home, but if not........... your at the right dealer.

WOW so glad you came through it still rolling on three, did the others in your group miss the debris?

I was about 2 miles ahead of them at the time. I had pulled over and they went right by me... they thought I was just changing a shirt or jacket, etc.....

I guess this is one time it was good to not be in a group... although I was typically in the back of the group.. just prefer it that way... other than the HD guys don't ride fast at all.

I did the Million Dollar Highway from Durango to Ourey by myself on Friday specifically because they would be too damn slow... lol.

Local told me they have a corner on that ride they call "Harley Corner" .. because HD's go off it all the time... the local EMT's and wrecker service have their own road going down to where they land... and they say it's almost always a HD that wrecks there.....

Still deciding what to do... really want to tear her down and see what's up.. but it's too hot out. Not going to make it to Cowtown tonight.. but could tomorrow.... or I could bust out the 500 miles to get home tonight -- leave for home around midnight.

I'm sure Spyder will make it... just don't know what all I'll find later on... but sure would prefer Cowtown to do any work that I can't !

Just don't know how the tire and swingarm could be 'lower' on one side... but it sure does seem that way. I can now even sorta 'feel' the bike leans a bit to the left... doesn't veer to the left really-- just feels like I'm leaning a bit left.

Maybe the left shock got hit hard enough to bend the upper mount and thus that side of the bike sits 'lower' ?? Really will have to yank the trunk to see what the deal is..

Really shocked I didn't bend a rim.. but it's riding as smooth as ever.....

Dan, Glad to hear you are ok. You are about 3hrs. and a little over 150 miles from Cuba. (That's the route I took to Spyderfest. Most of the way will be split hiway, like interstate, so it may be worth your time to go see Len. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Dan, happy that you faired well in the wreck. Gotta agree with Phil on getting checked out. By your description you were suffering from heat exhaustion. The groggy and "not with it feeling" and chills are classic symptoms. Sounds like you were staying hydrated by water but at the same time loosing to many elctrolythes which water can't replace. Time for Gatorade or some other type of sports drink. Get checked out, it can take a few days to fully recover and replace electrolythes. Cowtown isn't open on Monday anyway so take the opportunity to get checked out.

Glad to hear you're ok enough to tell us you're ok. Sounds like a scary 3-4 hundred milliseconds. Take it easy on yourself and the Spyder.

I'm glad you were ryding a spyder, yes you would not have liked the outcome on a 2 wheeler. All the more reason for ryding a spyder.

I will chime in with the others and say how glad that you are okay. I can certainly appreciate your misfortune. I hope that all will be covered satisfactorily by insurance. Mine was.

Chris

I was drinking water and smart water along the whole trip. Crap-- I forgot cowtown was closed on Monday's. Well-- staying over in Macon anyways.

Glad you're ok! That's some scary stuff, and you're right, two wheels would have been bad news. Hope Len can work some magic and that you get home in one piece, brother.
