There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Had a problem during the break in mileage

I was riding 2 up on a twisty uphill road for about 4 miles. The road was tight enough that only 1st and 2nd gear were being used. The temp on the bike said 107. After a while, I lost power and I really had to add a lot of throttle to make it go because there was no place to pull off. I also noticed kind of a sharp burning smell too along with the steering seeming to try to turn left and also not respond very well to input. I stopped at the top of the hill and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes with the odor coming off of the bike while standing down wind of it. The temp gage was ok. When I went back down the hill, I turned off the EcoBoost just to be sure that I had as much power available as possible and the bike seemed to run normally with no stinking smell. When I got back, I checked the oil level and it was good but I did notice a fine black powder dust on the top edge of the right side panel that my seat usually covers. There was a bit of this powder on the left side too but not nearly as much as on the right side.

Would this possibly be some kind of belt slipping caused by a hard pull in hot weather?

I have to bring the bike in for it's 600 mile checkup and I want the mechanic to know about this. If anyone has had this happen or knows of this happening, I would appreciate their thoughts on this. I am concerned.

:agree: Check the rear wheel: left side...
(Don't use your better-half's favorite hankerchief!)
These belts won't slip; they'd have to be loose enough to "rachet" on the cogs! :yikes: You would have noticed that, from the next Town over!

Steering wanting to turn left and stiff response indicates DPS issues. Possibly overheating of the DPS. Hard steering at low speeds with high ambient temps can cause the DPS to go into cool down. Fine black dust on the right side panel would not seem to be coming from the belt. As to the sharp burning smell, did it smell like rubber, oil, or brakes? You said the temp was 107. That was ambient temperature and not coolant temp. I'm guessing the brake pads may have become hot and didn't fully release.

Also, assuming this is a 2014 (you mentioned ECO mode) the first service isn't due until 3,000 miles.

All of the above..!!

Right side black dust usually brake dust and can be accompanied with aromas. Left side usually belt dust no aromas. Check rear wheel where dust is usually accumulated. If brakes were riden you could go into limp mode causing loss of power. If you restarted and things are back to normal codes have gone to storage. On service have all codes checked will tell you what happened..

Thanks Chup. Yeah, I didn't think it was the belt drive. I just didn't know if anything else is belt driven around the motor. Brakes were hit pretty hard that day and I did have a faint squeal out of the front right that has not resurfaced.

I will get them to check out the codes but these are the same guys that told me to come in for a 600 mile oil change and checkup. :banghead:

could be good dealer!

I purchased 2 Hondas from a dealer that wanted to do a 400 mile oil change. There was no charge as they wanted to check things over and make sure everything was OK and interview the owner to check if there where any questions or performance issues. When I purchased my Valkyrie, I passed 3 dealers on the way to this great dealer. Alas, this was years ago (97)
Hope this is the case. Great dealers are like finding gold!
