I was riding 2 up on a twisty uphill road for about 4 miles. The road was tight enough that only 1st and 2nd gear were being used. The temp on the bike said 107. After a while, I lost power and I really had to add a lot of throttle to make it go because there was no place to pull off. I also noticed kind of a sharp burning smell too along with the steering seeming to try to turn left and also not respond very well to input. I stopped at the top of the hill and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes with the odor coming off of the bike while standing down wind of it. The temp gage was ok. When I went back down the hill, I turned off the EcoBoost just to be sure that I had as much power available as possible and the bike seemed to run normally with no stinking smell. When I got back, I checked the oil level and it was good but I did notice a fine black powder dust on the top edge of the right side panel that my seat usually covers. There was a bit of this powder on the left side too but not nearly as much as on the right side.
Would this possibly be some kind of belt slipping caused by a hard pull in hot weather?
I have to bring the bike in for it's 600 mile checkup and I want the mechanic to know about this. If anyone has had this happen or knows of this happening, I would appreciate their thoughts on this. I am concerned.
