• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Guts and Glory Rally

:congrats: for another RS owner registered! :2thumbs:
(RS: Sport Roadster + Turing/Endurance = Devil RS).

From the application: "ACCEPTABLE MOTORCYCLES
The Guts and Glory Rally Across America is about supporting the men and women of the US Military that defend our Freedoms around the world and enable us the right to participate in an event like this.
The Guts and Glory Rally Across America is open to any brand, make or custom built motorcycle. Side cars, trikes and three-wheeled motorcycles are permitted under the same terms and conditions herein.
As this is a timed event, there will be no restriction on fuel tanks, or other modifications to your motorcycle. However, you MAY NOT carry additional fuel cells, cans or the like. Your motorcycle must pass state inspection requirements in the state of registration. Your motorcycle must be street legal, have working lights, turn signals, speedometer, odometer and appropriate street legal tires. Further, each participant must have a legal DOT approved helmet, and the Company strongly recommends it’s use throughout the entire course of the Rally.
The Company reserves the right to refuse participation in the Rally to anyone whose motorcycle is deemed to be unsafe during the inspection at registration."

Well this may have answered my question. But as I highlighted above it does state "custom built" and "no restrictions on fuel tanks". Now IMHO I would consider my Spyder once completed will be a custom built bike. With the "no restrictions on fuel tanks" statement I guess you could modify your stock tank to hold more fuel. As our Spyder tank is located under the seat we can't really modify it to hold more fuel (actually you could but it would be very complicated to design and therefore exceedingly expensive) so I'm having a second tank built into the Spyder. I wonder how this rule would apply to those with sidecars and aux fuel tanks built into their sidecars? I had aux tanks in both of my Hacks. I realize this may be the wrong forum for this discussion but what the heck. :D

:chat:

I suppose you would make your frame a gas container as well.
I have a feeling that the sponsors, are using the Bikes mfg spec to determine what is and what is not acceptable. And I would guess that would apply to the Custom bikes as well, However, I have seen custom bike not having more than 1 or 2 gal capacity.
Of course in reference to the " no restriction on fuel tank " I don't believe it means more than one.
However, this kind of rally doesn't pretend who can go the furtherst, fastest, or least number of stops. The rules did not disqualify mo-ped's or small cc size engines, which could get as much as 100 miles per gallon.
I can just see one riding 4-5 hundred miles at one sitting.

decisions.... decisions......decisions.......decisions

Ride or not to ride.

Go or not to go.

That is the question.

Go for it Forrest! Unless you have some other pressing engagement around the same time. It should be the trip of a lifetime.

I am getting closer to a decision.

Have to check with the Banker:yikes: as this trip is not going to be cheap.

And just think..... Spyderfest, at least 2200 miles round trip, plus the gut and glory 9,000 miles for a min total of 11,200 miles in less than one month... If one would round te numbers a bit, to 12,000 miles in 4 weeks, that seems to be 3,000 miles per week or almost 430 average miles per day. Fuel alone about $1400 for the 12K ride, then oil, filter changes, and hopefully no other repairs. I do hope my math is almost correct as the numbers are rounded.

So it is not an easy decision for us ole peeps. But WOW what a trip and ride that would be..

OH:yes: PS
Following Doc at speedlimits and below would be priceless.:roflblack:

Now Forrest. I realize that at times you may forget things...LOL...but no way can you forget that DOC, Speedlimit and Below can not be used in the same sentence.:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

"Doru The Destroyer" We've got to get some Tee-shirts made up for him... Something with Klaatu on it...(the 1951 version!)

Much thought went into your statement... AND.... by the time I finished reading it I forgot the subject... Now what were we talking about???

I just read through the site and I'm thinking about it.:spyder:

My issues are:

I'll have to stop every 120 mile or so for fuel. Not sure what they are basing their timed runs on. If it's 150 miles will I be able to make up the time and not be penalized for it by going a little faster?

I do need time to keep up on my work, I'm not sure how that's going to work. Will there be wifi at the stops? I know I could bring my own wifi and that's what I most likely would do.

If the run is 9000+ miles and 2200 or so to get out there I would need at least one rear tire and 4 oil changes. Is there time for that?

Don't really want to ride with someone that I don't know or who is not on a Spyder. It sounds like you get paired up with whoever you happen to fall in line with. That could be a major issue for me as 11 days with a bad rider or someone you didn't hit it off with could be a bummer.

If BajaRon would do it with me I would most likely make the jump.
