• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Guts and Glory Rally

The Guts and Glory Rally Across America is open to any brand, make or custom built motorcycle. Side cars, trikes and three-wheeled motorcycles are permitted under the same terms and conditions herein.

I have done some reading on it and it looks to be a good event. It takes place May 15 to May 29, 2011. You will start in Long Beach, CA & end in Bar Harbor, ME. There are 11 legs to the rally; each leg pays $1000 each. The person with the most points at Bar Harbor wins $100,000 plus a custom built bike. Everyone starts with 11,000 points. Points are deducted for being too early or too late. Seems to be set up to where speeding does not help you. Not the fastest but the rider that can maintain the speed limit. Also, you get 14 nights accommodations for the $1000 dollar entry fee. Heck, I can't get 14 nights at a hotel for $1000. It also helps 3 military charities. Their website is www.gutsandgloryrally.com . I read the application and it looks to be fun. It is also open to ALL make of motorcycles. This will be a good competition for bragging rights between Can Am, Honda, Yamaha, Victory, BMW and Harleys. Again any thoughts would be helpful.

When I first heard about this event I wanted to sign up for it. Then my better half kicked in with the wisdom. :D Since it starts in Long Beach, CA, I would have to get there before the event started, and then get back home from Maine. So, the event would probably be more like 20 days for me, and there is no way I can take that much time off work.

One thing to note is they do not guarantee staying in a hotel each night, only accomodations. These can range from a hotel, to a military style barracks, and anything in between. The bigger guts part of the ride comes into play if you decide not to use the accomodations, and sleep out under the stars, as they give you extra points for that. ;)

I think it would be a really cool, possibly once in a lifetime, experience. Perhaps some day I will have the free time, and hopefully still have the endurance, to give this a shot.

From http://www.gutsandgloryrally.com/:
3. If I arrive 1, 2 or 3 hours ahead of everyone else will I be able to leave when my 7 hour down time is over ?
The Guts & Glory Rally checkpoint coordinator will give you the time you are to start the next leg of the rally. While it is unlikely that you will arrive 1, 2, or 3 hours ahead of all the other riders, you would not be sent out alone on the next leg.:gaah:

:2thumbs:

Go Doc go! I will be rooting for you, and hope you get a chance to post updates for us while you are on this great adventure.

Maybe he can take this along with him. I am working on my schedule right now. This would be the trip of a lifetime.

Obviously, they have not heard of the famous SPYDOC.:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

Do you have a nuclear materials warning sticker on the side of your bike? Do your friends call you "KABOOM!"? :roflblack: :D:shemademe_smilie::shocked:

From doing more reading, it becomes obvious that speed is not what they are looking for with this run as they will penalize you for being either early or late. They are going to have GPS trackers on each bike, and I am not sure if they will use that information against you or not as well. This becomes more of a thinking, and endurance, game as you need to try to reach each checkpoint as close to the same time the test riders did as possible. Early or late and you lose points. Very interesting twist on things indeed.

Very much like the timed trials racing I did back in Tennessee on dirt bikes. You get a course and a stopwatch and off you go, checkpoint to checkpoint.

I agree with SpyderWolf. 785.71 miles/day= 13 hours + 8 gas stops/10 min each + 20 min rest for every 2 hours ryding = 16 hours/leg. The GPS is receiver + tracking; the timing laser registered chip can be used at start/arrival and checkpoints. :read:
