Gusafsson 20" shield review by 6' 2" rider.

I think at 6' 2" my body is of average proportions for my height... I don't have a longer than usual torso or longer legs and a short torso, etc.

I decided to try the Gusafsson 20" shield in light smoke (Gray) on the F3-S as I already had the Blue Ridge BRP Shield and wasn't happy with it.... I kinda knew I wouldn't like the BRP but figured what the heck.... Will selling it.

So the BRP shield sucked right? So I threw good money after bad and bought the Gusafsson.

Pros:

- Looks good in tint on bike
- Uses stock BRP Blue Ridge Shield mounts.
- Cheaper option than some of the other 3rd party shields.
- Shipped fast, had it in four days.
- Was truly worth a try.

Cons:

- Does not come pre-drilled. Seriously? Now, I'm a very mechanical guy and this wasn't a big deal, but I'm still not sure why it doesn't come pre-drilled.
- Does not come with protective film on it.
- Poor performance for someone as tall as me.

Now... The Gusafsson at 20" was a big improvement over the BRP Blue Ridge. I'll give it that. It made a big improvement up to about 60-65 MPH for me. Once I was on the interstate riding from 70-80 MPH the head shake was unbearable. This shield might be fine for someone who is a casual rider or doesn't do a lot of riding at interstate speeds, but it couldn't work long term for me. I do some pretty long days, and while I prefer to poke along the scenic routes, when I go to Spyderfest, I post 930 miles in a day going the fastest most boring route I can take.

In fact, I sold the Gusafsson today to a local guy who had the Blue Ridge on his F3 and he liked it. He was 5' 10" and took my Spyder for a spin to make sure he wanted it first and so there you have it.

Here is where I think they can improve the Gusafsson for us taller riders.

- Take the same design and offer it in a 22" or 23"
- Or... Take the same shield and instead of having that top edge curl straight up, have it remain on the same plane as the face of the shield and make it potentially 22" or 23". That would allow the air stream to exit higher up and/or further back from where it does now on the 20". My experience with the seating position on Spyders says having it come farther back would work wonders as Spyder riders of GS/RSS/ST/F3 tend to site further back from the shield than traditional motorcyclists.... Just my opinion.

If they did that and pre-drilled I think a lot of us taller riders would have found the Gusafsson workable and quite the bargain.

If you are 5" 10" or under you might like it and it would be worth a try... Any taller and I suggest you not buy the Blue Ridge or throw good money after bad and buy the Gusafsson

Yeah... I have an F4 shield in tint, 32" on order as of yesterday.

Next Time....

Buy an adjustable Madstad shield

Gustafsson Review

Can't tell you how much I disagree with your review. I to am 6'2", I have the Gustafsson and love it. Yes it is a bit odd that it does not come pre-drilled, but hell marking the windshield took about a minute with my wife's help and drilling was a snap. Too bad you didn't like your's but I love mine, couldn't be happier with it and it's a whole lot less expensive than the others on the market. :doorag::spyder2:

Yeah, thats the problem with shield reviews. You both might be 6'2", but one of you might have a 2" taller torso, and will suffer eyeball rattling. That's why the F4 site is so good....there are gastank to top of shield measurements.....and I'm NOT saying the F4 is better than the Gustaffson 😜

Yeah... To each their own as they say. I noted the torso thing in my review - Every one is slightly different. I've seen so many good posts about the F4 that I figured I'd use that as my 3rd strike. :) I've seen pictures of the others and not sure I'd have gotten a good result with them. Fairly confident the F4 would work well... Now I just can't wait for it to get here.

Madstad

After reading all the opinions on here I ordered a 22" Madstad in dark grey for my black F3-S. Really hated to put a shield on it as I liked the space age look without it but want to do RFTW next year so this seemed the best option. Will follow up once it is installed.
