GUN CONTROL,,, lets see if we can discuss this w/o me pulling the post

what would you consider gun control. i have lived in NYC my whole life, and i am used to the rules they have here. i don't know all of them, but i am good friends with the ex. number two police commissioner and he told me to forget about ever getting a carry permit here in the city. i also asked him to get me a copy of the rules and regulations and he said he tried can't get a copy because there is none for public viewing. we used to get them when we renewed our permits, but not now. my glock has a 10 round clip, but the law says we can only have 7 rounds, glock doesn't make a 7 round clip or a spacer so we got a letter saying only load 7 at a time. i also know they say any rifle with a hand grip on it is considered a assault rifle, and we can't own one. there is also a limit on the clips that go into rifles. when i would go out to the range on long island we were only allowed one bullet at a time in the rifle, but pistols were allowed what they could carry.

now as far as a AR15, i love the look of them but we can't own one, and i don't see the need for one. i do agree it is your right to own one, but i can't so it really doesn't bother me. i love big guns and i would love a 50 cal. rifle just to say i have one, but i can't.

so what is your thoughts on gun control, AND PLEASE NO BASHING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF OTHER MEMBERS. thanks i would really like to hear your thoughts

If I may first correct one thing Glocks do not have clips, they have magazines. Very different but a commonly said. We all know you can't get all the illegal guns off the streets And I believe legally owned guns are rarely used to commit crimes. What laws could be made that would have prevented the terror attack last week or the never ending gun deaths in places like Chicago with the strictest gun laws. I don't believe there are any.

As I understand it, the AR15 has no functional difference from any other rifle of the same calibre. It just looks more "technical", IMHO.

I like that there are rules in place... but there needs to be a crack down on those he get guns through the underground. It's not hard to find so why can't it be stopped? I have a permit to carry and don't think the problem is with those who take proper channels. Jus sayin.:yikes:

i grew up calling them clips, and old habits are hard to brake, one of the concerns i hear about is buying guns at gun shows. i have never done that. even for buying a rifle from someone, i have a form that needs to be filled out with the sellers name, permit number or ffl license number, and the form has to be mailed into the firearms control board of NYC so it can be shown on my rifle permit.

It's unfortunate, but I don't see guns ever being considered "controlled". There are millions of em out there, and if you don't have one, but want one, you can get one legally OR illegally, just like street drugs. Street drugs kill people too, just like guns. It's not the drug, it's not the gun...it's the user. As long as there are "users" there will be suppliers. No law will ever change it. Much like a seat belt, it's there, it's just a matter of whether you choose to use it legally or not. I don't believe in the phrase "gun control"....it's an oxymoron. Like anything else, guns can be altered to be used in ways they were never designed to be used. It's really not a debatable subject IMO. A gun, of any size, shape, caliber, etc... can kill a person WHEN IT GETS INTO THE WRONG HANDS.

The framers of our Constitution really did get it right. :bowdown:
They sorted out a very carefully balanced batch of layers of government...
With an armed citizenry being the last line of defense.
Even against their own government.
Of course; this fact isn't exactly a favorite among the Politicians... :gaah:
So they add limitations and regulations: there are now over 22,000 gun laws Nationwide.

Yet the bad guys are still armed... :banghead:

This is the one that always gets me laughing. If any level of gov't. wanted to come into your house, you will never have enough guns to stop them. They will always have more than you.

I am not against gun ownership. But, I do not accept the status quo as being OK. And, no I do not have all of the answers to this problem.

When I was 13 I took my first earnings from my paper route & went up to the local shoe store/gun store and bought a used rifle; it cost me $5.00. The cleaning kit for it cost me $2.00 than the rifle did. I currently do not own any guns; I will not live in fear.

I will not live in fear

A friend of mine said this yesterday and I responded to him that I fear nothing and no one. I have zero fear that I am going to crash my Spyder but I wear a top of the line helmet every time I died. I have no fear that my house will catch on fire but I have fire extinguishers. I have no fear that someone is going to attack me but I always carry a gun. There is a big difference in being afraid and beng prepared.

I guess I'll weigh in also. Have lived all over the country and experienced a wide assortment
of gun laws. So much of what I read already is accurate, although some of it is "anecdotal" and a
good percentage of the conversation is naturally based on our own experience and living situation.

If they want to come into my home, probably. If they want to come into my neighborhood? or County? not so sure.

I think Bob D is kind of on the right track too. Here, we believe Gun Control is being able to hit your target.

as far as AR style rifles or AK styled rifles, they are FUN to SHOOT ! There are lots of hunters, but even MOST
of them are recreational shooters. There are few stress relievers (maybe Spyder) that equal the aroma of
burnt gunpowder.

Lastly, at least for now, talking guns IS important. But like talking about tires for a CanAm, it could go on foreverrrr..

Since moving to FL from CT, I've had two people walk into my home, thinking it was their home, while taking out the garbage. Both times these people were drunk. Instead of shooting them, I just called the cops and told them to take them to where they were supposed to be. Legally I had every right to shoot them, but didn't.

Than I had 3 break ins all by the same people. One lived here renting a bedroom at one time and knowing what I have in my house as far as electronics, they figured I would be an easy target. They always hit after 3 pm when I was out and this one day, I parked my truck behind a friends house. My spyder was in the yard under a cover. I had this one window, that I couldn't lock at the time, that I did fix and this is how they got in. I was waiting for them and once inside, I confronted them holding my Judge on them. Instead of shooting first, I called the cops again, once I had them on the floor spreadeagled. I told them just twitch the wrong way and your life will change. I told them, I really don't know what will come out of this gun first, but will tell you it will either be a 410 ga or a .45 long Colt. Either way you won't be sitting down for a long time. When the sheriff's arrived, I was asked why I didn't shoot them? I told the sheriff's I want them to sit in prison, thinking about what got them there and will even supply the KY Gel they may need. In my way of thinking, that's worse than shooting them.

I do have a CCW and maybe I carry and maybe I don't. I don't like to advertise it. I was in the military and with FL law, I didn't need to take a course, but did just the same and I take a refresher course every 2 years. Laws change and I like staying up to date. I also visit the range at very least, once a month.

As for states with strict gun control laws, I hate to say this, but like "Gun Free Zones"? I Label these states as "Gun Free State Zones"! California has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country along with NY, CT, MA and I know there are more and I hope I am wrong, but I see more of what happened in Calif. happening in other states with strict gun control laws.

Putting more gun control laws on the books or taking guns away from law abiding gun owners is not going to stop the the criminal or the terrorists. Its only going to enable them to pick and choose their targets

IF YOU have a permit to carry you should carry.

In todays crazy world you never know when u will need it.

I also would like to say in NY there aare half million hunters in the woods during the huntinğ season and they come home safe.

Gun shows

I purchased a revolver within the last month at a local gun show. I filled out the exact paperwork that I would have in the gun shop and had to wait for him to call in the information to do a background check on me, the same as in a store. So when I hear about this gun show loop hole, I really don't see it or understand it. Unless they are talking about private sale of guns, which does take place in and around gun shows, I think they want the seller to run a background check on any person they he may sell a gun to or make them go thru a gun dealer to do the sale. In Indiana I can sell or give a firearm to another person as long as I have no knowledge of infractions of laws that they may have been involved in. I have only purchased one revolver from a private person and even them I had him produce the bill of sale to indicate that he did purchase the gun correctly and to prove it was not stolen. I have sold or given guns to people that I know very well and relatives, etc, but seldom to strangers without going thru a gun dealer, even tho it wasn't required, just to be safe.

I do not feel you are living in fear, if you have a firearm, handgun or long gun. I think everyone that is law abiding has the right to purchase a firearm or not to purchase, then the right to carry said firearm if they choose within the law's limits. I assume that most people I talk to or meet each day are armed and carry concealed.

My latest purchase was that of the new model LC9s from Ruger 9mm, fires very well and no hang ups and has a new trigger design which reduced the trigger pull, so it is 100% better then the old model. At the same time I picked up a used Remmington 11-87 12 ga Shotgun semiauto and it is awesome. I have a number of pump shotguns but shoulder problems have surface while working the pump slide, so the semi auto works great, should have spent the cash years ago..lol.

It has never been about guns it is about "Control ". The biggest gun control advocate was Adolf Hitler, "he done it for the Children" and we know how that turned out for Germany. We are heading to a Socialist USA right now.

We need to follow the laws we have in the Constitution now. Thankfully I still live in one of the Free states.

My friend called me this morning and he is from Indiana, but has lived here for the last 20 years. He has a Remington 1100 as well as other shotguns at his wife's brothers house in KY. He wanted to know what its worth and since he doesn't have a computer, I looked up the 1100 to see what it was worth. He wants to get rid of some of his long guns and buy a a few handguns to carry and asked me what I would recommend.

He's not interested in a .45 and wants a 9 mm for himself and a .380 for his wife. I told him about the .40 cal. and 9 mm S&W M&P Shield and the Ruger .380 LCP. My brother has the M&P 380 and liked it at first, but hates the long trigger pull on it and is looking to trade it for a Marlin 60. He has an engraved Colt 380, that he doesn't want to ruin, but will use it if he has to.

I've never given a gun to anyone, nor have I sold one myself. I always go through my dealer and put what I'm selling on consignment. Even with a bill of sale, I don't want any gun I have bought coming back to me as the original buyer, if its used in a crime. By going through my dealer, I know that person has to pass the background test. I have a Bersa 45 Ultra Compact on consignment now and he almost sold it at a gun show, until he got the results back from the background check as that person was once charged with a felony and did time.

I just bought a Winchester 94, 30/30 that belonged to a collector or Winchester 94's and couldn't pass on that one at the price I got it for.

Gun control? I've had a carry permit most of my adult life. It seems that many want to push things through that would only affect the law abiding gun owners. So, a suggestion; If you are involved in a crime and a gun is brandished - life without parole. If involved in a crime and a gun is fired - death sentence.
Only an idea, but it seems more fair than any of the things from the politicos.
