There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. GPS mount compatability

Does anyone know if the Garmin 665 will work with the Can-Am RT 660 GPS mount kit? I was thinking if the 665 would plug into the wiring harness I would buy that instead of the 660. Thanks for any information.

Yes and no. You'll need to use the 665 harness on the GPS side but the other end will plug into the RT if you have the adaptor that goes to the 660. I'm getting ready to mount a 665 to mine.

Here's the 665 harness

...

Is that because of the Sat Radio antenna for the 665.....

Freebob....

Lamonster i'm confused, Garmin shows that the harness part # 010-11270-03 is the same for the 660 and the 665......

Yes, there is no hookup for the SAT on the 660

Unless they changed things from the harness my 660 had it will not work, there was no hookup for the SAT on the one I had.

According to the Garmin support line the 660 and the 665 use the same cable. I have the L-plug that is in your hand. I found it all taped up and inside the plastic wire wrap. However, I have been wrong many times.

That's good news.

Looking back at one of my old pics it looks like there are 4 wires in the splitter and that's what the 665 has so I guess I missed that last time. :opps:

I still havent picked a spot yet. Garmin told me that it can be mounted under the plastic and pointed somewhat upward. I will let you know when I figure it out.

I stand corrected

Garmin insured me that the 660 harness was in fact the same harness as the 665, and all I would have to do is plug in the anteena and the 665, then I would be off and running. Well, I plugged the 665 device and the XM antenna into the harness of my 660. It recognized the 665 and the antenna but could not find a signal. So I hot wired the 665 harness to the battery, set the harness on the seat, plugged in the 665 device and XM antenna, and BAM! Thats right, a signal. So I guess Garmin might be wrong or I have a very old BRP 660 harness that is not connected somewhere in the wiring or in the pin connecters. Anyway, I am not very good with tools so now comes the challenge of switching out the harness which is what I was trying to avoid. Looks like a project for after the holidays. Maybe I will get money for Xmas and I can pay someone to do it.

PS: Garmin suggested I mount the antenna at least 10-30cm away from the device.

My understanding is that when the 665 first came out it used a different harness than the 660. The old 660 harness would not work with the 665. Eventually Garmin did away with the old 660 harness and now both the 660 and the 665 come with the newer 665 harness, which works fine for both units. That's why they only show one harness now on their website.

Funny you should say that. Not really funny because that means I have to do the same thing. My 665 would not get a signal and I called Garmin and they gave me a RMA for a new antenna but I didn't tell them I was using a 660 harness. Why would they have the usb plugin if it wasn't going to work? :banghead:

Guess what :gaah:

With the 660 harness that came on the 2012 RT

All the connections are the same so I have no idea why this doesn't work but it doesn't. Guess I won't need to be returning that antenna after all.

I purchased an extension for the antenna which I tuck the end behind the back seat/rest. I mount the antenna on top of the rear saddle with velcro to maximize exposure. I transfer the antenna between the spyder and the truck so it is handy. The instructions do say not to have the antenna near GPS.
