• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. GPS Lifetime maps?

Don't quote me on this, but I seem to remember somebody on here said to take your battery out of your gps. There is a label underneath it that tells you it is lifetime. I know it was after 2012,because mine is not.

I had/have same question:banghead: between sales pitch & all I may have miss understood. Took over a month before I had GPS registered with garmin. I am now outdated (not that it was ever that right)& looking for solution.:yikes: The lifetime map units are suppose to have (LM) in sieral number rest is arguing with dealer:banghead:

look at the serial number (most are under the battery) if it has LM in the serial number, than you are supposed to have Lifetime Maps Free

I seem to recall that the Garmin GPS that came with my ST LTD has a Garmin lifetime maps subscription. Am I remembering correctly?

Since you did not share what model year your Sypder is this will be a long answer.

If your STL is a 2015. Then it has a Zumo 590 and will have lifetime maps.
If your STL is a 2014. Then it has a Zumo 660 and will likely have lifetime maps. Look under the battery for the model number to make sure.
If your STL is a 2013. Then it could have lifetime maps or not. Again look under the battery.

If you install Garmin Express on your computer and plug the GPS into the computer. It will tell you if you have lifetime maps or not. Note some Zumo 590 owners report that Garmin express comes back incorrect as not having lifetime maps.

According to both Garmin & BRP, if you don't have "LM" after the serial number, you are out of luck. Only on 2014's & later. Iv'e been chasing this issue with both Garmin & BRP for two months, and I finally have to admit defeat and pony up the $89.99 to Garmin for the "free" lifetime maps upgrade. Yet again, another example of BRP cheaping out. Spend $29K on a motorcycle that comes with the Garmin 660 as OEM, and then have to spend more to keep it up to date. At least BRP isn't getting my money. They have enough of it already.
