• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

GPS App

I'm thinking about adding a GPS application to my iphone4/ipad3. After I saw that guy during Friday Nite Lites in Cuba and his setup I've been awed. He uses Tom Tom but there are several others out there. So whats the best one in your opinion?

Google navigation works quite well for me...

However if you're going to be losing data coverage during your riding, most "app" navigations will fail as they don't download all the map information, just what they need to show at the time.

Make sure whichever app you use completely caches all the map information on your phone (this info can be very large btw.)

Might just be better off getting an inexpensive Garmin to do the job.

I have a 7 in Magellan from Costco mounted Okie style between the handlebars. I would like to listen to music and directions on my BT. No matter what, you can't see the screen on anything in the daylight unless you put a big cardboard box over the bike.:banghead:

You might want to think about waiting anyway. Apple announced a day or so ago that the new operating system IOS 6 was going to have a complete navagation app built into it. It will work for the iphone or the ipad the way I understand it. Just something to think about. You can read about it at the below link.

I just installed Navigon.

The initial setup and on-board maps take a LONG time to load, but so far the app seems to be top notch.

Just be patient on the install! ;)

I saw the keynote address yesterday. The new maps looks pretty cool. Google wasn't bad but couldn't provide turn to turn. Alas iOS6 won't be available till the fall. Let me check out your recommendations. Thanks. If my iPhone RAM Mount comes in on time (today please) I will have it up front with me to Durango. That goofy cable in the rear trunk is OK but its a pain to change playlists, etc.

Question: I've seen where some people have disconnected their analog gauges and installed RAM mounts and/or 12V plug ins in their place. Are one or more of those wires to the gauges +/-?

PS: I've decided to download Waze and MotionX, not only because the price is right but there were too many critcal reviews of the higher priced apps, especially Navigon.

Two issues for me: Day visibility and mechanical damage (vibration, moisture, etc.). That's probably OK for a $100 Garmin (or similar), but not for a $700 iPhone. My used Zumo works with gloves, and has been bulletproof for the last three years of use…. If I had to replace it, I'd buy a new 550…
