I have been a proponent of how many miles I have driven Spyders without any major mechanical problems (over 55,000). Now my RTS is acting up. It has 14,000 miles on it and is 1 year old.
I have an appointment for service--but am curious if any of you mechanical experts can give me some ideas.
Problem 1: About a week ago when I shifted into Reverse, the Spyder began to buck and snort like someone had thrown a bunch of rocks in the tranny. The check transmission light came on. I shut the Spyder off, and rebooted--the problem went away. A drive to the dealer for a check did nothing. Spyder would not cooperate.
Problem 2: Today, while driving home on the highway at about 70 mph--the power suddenly began to decrease--Like it was going into limp mode--but no limp mode showed on the screen. The speed went down to 50-52 mph and the machine would not accelerate. I shifted down to 4th and was able to increase speed and then shift into 5th when rpms got above 6K.
Went through this same scenario two more times in the space of 5 miles.
Took it to my dealer, who just happened to be up the road. I talked with the owner. We tried it in the parking lot and the Spyder was sluggish and would not accelerate out of 1st gear. They put it on Buds and said there were no codes or problems. I was able to drive it home (about a mile away) and it started the bucking and snorting again when I stopped at the off ramp.
I am done with riding it until I can get it in for service in a couple days. They are supposed to do an oil change, check over, gas gauge fix (2nd time) and a new rear tire.
