I brought my Spyder in for a custom seat job yesterday. As many of you have probably noticed, the stock seat has a crown in the center that makes for some butt-pain after a certain amount of riding time. For me, it was about 45 minutes.
Anyway, the guy that did it is Don Weber from Mr. Ed's Moto (www.mredsmoto.com). He charged me $450. His focus was mainly on the driver seat portion as I typically don't carry a passenger. He can build using whatever materials, colors, and stitching you might want. I used a carbon fiber pattern vinyl for the seat base and plain black vinyl for the trim. You'll notice how the stitching lines follow the flow of the Spyder lines. Don is VERY meticulous and does a great job. If you're not happy with the result, he'll continue to make adjustments until you are.
You can bring your Spyder to his shop (not so conveniently located in Albany, Oregon), or ship the seat to him for the conversion. He's usually booked out a couple months in advance, so plan accordingly.
Needless to say, I love the new seat. It's very comfortable and supports where it should. I'll also mention this is the 5th seat Don has done for me. He's done most of the motorcycles I've owned. No, I don't get discounts for referrals. He's just that good.
I posted pics on that "other Spyder forum". I couldn't figure out how to do it here.
