• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Got some good pics of the backrest

This is a replacement tail piece. There is a cable under the seat that you pull to remove the backrest to change back to the rack. The backrest has a flipup paddle so you can adjust the backrest forward and backward.

Are there now two styles of backrest for the Spyder? As I recall, the original design bolted onto the rear rack. It looks like this one doesn't have a rack with it.

I agree with Bruce. This looks like its all one unit. The access. page states you have to purchase the rack in oder to install the backrest. Also I hope in the future they will have color options to match the spyders.

:spyder: This is a total redesign of the original backrest/luggage rack. It is the first I have seen of it. Those of us that have our Spyders are still waiting for the backrest and luggage rack, even though we ordered them at the same time. BRP said sometime in March. Since Lamont has pictures of them now, I am hopeful they will arive soon. It sounds like they have not updated the info on them at the website. I guess you could order them separately, both of them having the same mounting base in the new design. What a pity you can't use both at the same time; like almost every other backrest/luggage rack in the world. :( The redesign gave them the perfect opportunity to correct that :edit: oversite. I blasted them for that on the owners survey to no avail. :dontknow:

Still, all in all it seems like one of the slickest and easiest to use back rests I have ever seen. And you can convert it to a (albeit) small carying rack as well....

just sayin

I would buy it for a coupe hundred, but not for the $600 plu they had for the old style. I will wait unti lafter markets come out. BOO BRP

That was the demo Spyder in Daytona. It will come in all the colors but I don't think they have shipped any yet.

They will come..

Now you have me worried. We ordered a rear rack only, based on the prototype photos that showed it would function as a luggage rack. No need for a backrest for us, as I will ride separately. Now it looks like they have replaced it with a new, mostly closed, tailpiece. This is not a luggage rack, has no place to attach straps, and is virtually useless for anything except to hold the backrest. Were they showing a separate, functional rack at Daytona? It sure would be nice to know.

The lugage rack has an outtakeable plate, so if you mount the backrest you have to remove that plate.
With the plate on it you have a normal lugage rack.

That was what the original design appeared to be, but these pictures show something completely different. No rack, just a replacement tailpiece. They did say the new rack had a storage compartment. This tailpiece, without the backrest, could have a little door. It has no place to attach a bungee, however. Just won't work for our needs, if this is what it has evolved into. The original rack looked like exactly what we wanted.

When you pull this knob

the backrest will pop out and then you put the rack in it's place. Didn't get to see the rack but my guess is it will have some sort of tiedown points.
