• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Got a 2014 ST Limited this week - questions

I just bought a 2014 ST Limited edition in Cognac and it is sweeeeeet....

Just looking for a few questions answered from any of you Spyder veterans.

- Any tips to follow for the Break-in period?
Operators Guide indicates avoid full throttle acceleration and avoid prolonged riding. Can anybody expand on that? So just what is considered prolonged riding? I drive an hour to work one way and would like to drive it to work every day. I also want to drive 3 hours to visit my brother.

- Fuel type to use? Any problems with using 87 Octane?

- Shifting the SE5, any tips for hitting that sweet spot?

- Tried to get familiar with the accesses like oil, brake fluid and coolant but I could not get that coolant access panel off. How the heck does it come off?

:congrats: on the new ryde and :welcome:

I'll answer a couple and leave some for other.

:ani29: Break In: Prolonged riding would be a gas tank full or more. The hour long commute should not be an issue. PS--you will get broke in more quickly. Three hours with a pit stop somewhere in between should also be all right.

:ani29: Shifting: Most are talking 3000 to 3500 rpms on the new 2014 RT's.

:ani29: Gas: I have used Premium octane in all my :spyder2:'s. Here it is 90. Have not had a chance to experiment on the 2014 yet.

Not that lucky..!!

To have a 2014, but the prolonged ryding they refer to is running at a constant speed or rpm. They like you to vary up and down. Like getting on the freeway and doing 65 mph for two hours. Move your speed up and down.

87 us is fine but for the small amount of difference in a 6 gal tank I run the high test.

As to the panel removal can't help haven't even seen one

As to shifting, again never ridden one either but you should feel it and the manual makes reference to this as well.

There are those that know who will let you know...good luck, congrats and be safe..!!:ohyea:

Welcome

I would follow the manual for break in and fuel octane. We use at least 89. With the 998 you should shift up around 6,000 RPM,sweet spot at 5,000. There is a plastic push in fastener on that panel, the middle must be pulled up with a screwdriver then the outside removed.
