• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Glove Box Insert

I was trying to fit as much as I could in the glove box and realized that you can remove the foam insert. There's no glue or screws so it just slipped out! It's basically just styrofoam with plastic on it.

Obviously, it makes a lot more room since I removed it, but I am a little concerned about the heat from the engine.

Has anybody else done this and has the heat been a problem for your cell phones, glasses, wallets, and so on?

Do not put you cell phone in the glove box! I did once and I had to wait a half an hour before it would function properly. (And this was with the foam insert in the box.....it provided NO heat insulation whatsoever.)

I haven't had a problem yet, but I'll take your advice and keep the CP in my pocket. Thanks. :spyder2:

Good to know! I was wondering about that, especially down here in the Texas heat!

My Droid went into overheat today, with the insert in place. I was running music on it for 3 hours with outside temps around 80 today. First time it has happened in over a year. I do not have the under body heat shield stuff since my Spyder is a pre production unit.

The original RTs did not have it, including my 2010 PE...it was added part way through the 2010 production run. When I got my 2011, I immediately removed it. My sunglasses and gas receipts don't care about the heat. The remainder of the insulation kit remains in place. Even without the insert, the later gloveboxes are cooler than the first few hundred Spyder RTs.

I haven't got around to dismantling mine yet......
Just wondering if they have installed any heat insulation on the bottom of that panel on the new models.
I used some reflective aluminum and fibreglass sheeting on my Ducati under the seat and rear cowl. It reflected a lot of the heat away from the butt and the legs don't get as hot.
I was going to wrap the exhaust as well but it ended up in the too-hard-basket.
I remember wrapping the headers on my 350 Chevy motor with fibreglass cloth...made a huge difference.
When I dismantle mine to instal the extra electronics I'll check it out and maybe instal some(extra) insulation.
cheers
Pete

I put my "tootsie pops" in there, and haven't had a single one melt. Had one in there for almost two weeks and it was fine. Not sure I'd recommend putting my cell phone in there.

With the insert out it's a great place to put a 6" sandwich from Subway. Keeps it nice and warm. :roflblack:. Even with the insert in place I do not put any electronic devices in there. Heat and electronics don't go well together.

Hey Clinty,

I have a video posted on YouTube for my iPhone4 mount. I LOVE the way it works very secure and convenient. I haven't posted in the mods section here because I wanted to edit the video a bit, but you will get the idea. Hope that helps.

I haven't really searched, but does anyone know of a good iPhone 4 mount. I have the 2011 RTS if that matters.

Hi Scotty! My RT's MSO is showing a June 9th, 2010 build date. and it doens't have the foam insert; Do you know when they made the change?

My 2010 did not come with the liner. I just use a piece of felt and carry both the gate and garage door openers in it. Even in the Phoenix, Arizona heat, no problems.

Well if anybody wants to sell their no longer used insert (or just get it off their garage shelf), PM me and a hostage swap can perhaps be worked out...

Bob,
You are welcome to mine. PM me your address. I'll send it to you (USPS please) and you can just pay me for the actual shipping cost later.

What a deal.....:ohyea:
